What's outside of your picture window today?

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Nov 25, 2020

As we get ready for the real winter to show up and COVID-19 still playing a major part in our lives I like to spend moments of my day de-stressing about what's going on in the world today. All I have to do is look out the window and observe some of natures beautiful creatures, how they interact and ponder how small it makes my troubles seem. Sometimes I may even get the opportunity to take a photo or two. How about you? Anything going on outside of your window(s) that you want to share?

For those members that have the ability to size your photos before you upload them to the discussion, may I suggest using the following sizes:
– 500 x 335 pixels (landscape)
– 210 x 210 pixels (square)

This is Javier......he is 4 years old and sort of the master of the Klan. It is fun to watch the others try to sneak up on him when he is in my lap. Attached is a picture of him on Jay's shoulder. He will jump up there when Jay invites him. He also likes to ride on his foot. And sometimes he is just being an angel. When our teen queens arrive, they make bridges for him to cross. He has a girlfriend named Sienna. She is in charge of taking peanuts back up to their "hole" to feed the little ones.

@merpreb , mine is inside, about 5 feet from my patio doors, getting filtered light in my den where I can love it daily. Seems very happy, rescued for $5 and now have 3 new bright green stalks full of beautiful ZZ leaves. It has such a great growing pattern. But, not outside my window....inside and happy.

Same with money tree I got for $2. It's really happy on the little plant table in front of the patio doors. With orchids. Notice it has several new leaves....I'm having a blast with these babies, and watermelon plant, dracena, alo, huge elephant ear leaf with roots coming out and I think I'll get a bulb! I got it for free to save it.

This is so fun. Only possible now due to 2 iron infusions in March, hospital stay that got rid of a lot of infections, and great care. I'm so glad to be at this place, finally! Mayo....be well, be blessed. Elizabeth

Elizabeth- I began buying all new house plants this year and have a lot of the ones that you do! My nephew and his beautiful girlfriend/partner gave me a ZZ plant for Christmas. It's been throwing up shoots like crazy and the same with my money tree.

I'm not sure where to put them outside...

THanks for straightening it out.

Here on the Oregon coast, we have had really cold (for us!) weather plus lots of rain. Rivers are unusually high for this late in the year. I'll have to make two trips to the river where I collect data, four hours driving and 6.5 miles beating my way through the brush each time, in order to place temperature monitors this year: no way that I'll be able to wade across the river in ten days in order to place a monitor above a waterfall in a tributary. The combo of cold and high river levels has already compromised our spawning surveys, making some of the early ones flat impossible. Here, I have an acre of tall, wet grass. Lots of it will have to be beaten down with my weed whacker before I can apply the mower. Still snowing above 3,500'. Yes, we really need the snowpack, but this is pretty strange.

@joyces, @loribmt, @merpreb , @artscaping and all...my little Chirpy is back on the fence singing his tiny heart ❤ out calling everyone to the table of full feeders and baths. Love to hear this every day. It's a love thrasher. I adore this bird. Real personality, comes when I'm filling feeders or watering plants, and seems to know and like me. Not so shy. Neat!

Oregon sou do love now, even if a bit daunting. Can't believe your great contributions to the communities, the river, spawning, temp moniters, etc. Hiking through brush 6.1 miles???? Many of us are thrilled to walk with a walker through the Mayo buildings! Air conditioned, lined with lovely plants, walls of windows, beautiful artwork....you are a Super Hero to me!

Enjoy your wonderful world! Elizabeth

@artscaping and all...I'm in awe! Chris, your lite chippers are adorable le, so tiny! Such friends to your family!

This is such a treat for all of you and for them. Wow!

Just heard the soft 'coo, coo, coo' of my lovely mourning doves as the land so gracefully, huge wings, soft landing on my fence...stopping by to visit and feed and have a buffet and a bath. Then, 2 cardinals feeding each other, a purple/red Tanager, chicadee. I adore these friends.

Enjoy. Be well, my friend, and be blessed. Elizabeth

This is the third time writing you my message. I could do it easier and faster by carrier mourning doves! Grrrrrr...

I'm attaching pics of a couple more new inside plants I rescued and loving playing with. What fun for me now that I again can have a few plants inside. I gave up my house plants, put outside what would survive and gave friends others when medical issues took over a few years ago. Now, I can care for them regularly and only have succulents, low light, low water, or low maintenance.

Also, they're all rescue -pious me..and new to me. I love they're quaintness, so unusual and all respond so well to love.

Water about 1-2x weekly only. Low fertilizer needs. Low light needs. Perfect for my current life.

Added pic of watermelon plant that is bursting out with new growth. Love the new line of pots now, too. Things change so fast!

Watermelon has doubled in size since got it...2 weeks for most of these newbees.

Ck out the one full, rounded, in a great natural stone pot. What is it? Love it. Doubled also, but may be getting a tiny bit too much lite, as leaves are a touch brown, crinkled on tips. Moved it back couple of feet to kitchen divider.

Money tree needs help. One larger trunk has survived, has a lot of new growth. 2 trunks were squishy and pulled out easily. Moss on top, not much soil. Do you know how to help it? Repot with some fresh soil? What kind? Succulent?

OK, my pain in hands, fingers, wrist, arms, back, neck....is sky high now using my cell to message you so I'm through. Hope you are well and enjoy your new babies.

Be safe. Be blessed. Elizabeth

The Mississippi is growing aka flooding. In the first photo, you will see the Mississippi in the background. The river in the front is the result of flooding. It has come all the way to the bottom of the bank. And there is no bridge. In the second photo you will see a black circle around the bridge which has become dislodged. The yellow circle shows you where the bridge belongs.

Good thing this big wedding is in July. Who wants to help rebuild the bridge?
