Foot pain post arthroscopic knee surgery

Posted by cmartz @cmartz, Feb 18, 2020

I had arthroscopic knee surgery 11 weeks ago. Cleaned out a lot of arthritis behind knee cap, snipped torn meniscus on the inside of the knee, and also had stem cells inserted in two areas to regrow cartilage. About a month post surgery I started having foot pain, roving at first, then settled in the area of the inner side upper part of the foot (not the arch, although sometimes that bone hurts). The foot actually hurt more than the knee.

Have been doing some PT and stretching of the foot and the pain isn't as intense, but it's gone back to roving and I limp more because of the foot than the knee.

What could be the cause of this foot pain after arthroscopic knee surgery? Thank you for any insight you can provide.

Post right knee arthroscopy

I’m day 11 after a knee arthroscopy for a torn meniscus and arthritis scraping. No improvement, still using crutches, and painful. Anyone else who has had this experience?

I’m 6 weeks post op arthroscopic knee surgery. Meniscus and ACL repair. Just able to put weight on and walk. From what I’ve dealt with you might be on crutches for a while! It’s a 2 step forward one step back deal.

I had a second knee replacement on January 28, 2020. Of course I missed PT due to being shut down due to covid. I eventually got PT a year later. My knee is always stiff and still have to ice it constantly. I take Aleve and occassionaly tramadrol. Nothing seems to ease it and I can no longer walk long distances

My PT told me there’s a small window for gaining range of motion and extension after this surgery. If it’s not done properly it can cause permanent damage, funny walk, limping etc. it could be from not going to PT and getting those things back right away. I would definitely consult doctor or PT

Hello, I have had two such surgeries on my knee. It difficult to go through the rehabilitation of learning to walk again.I still have problems but with my left knee. I sometimes wonder if all the surgeries did more harm than good. Best regards Jacqueline

I am six months post-arthroscopy for meniscal root repair. I was non-weightbearing for six weeks after surgery. As soon as I started weight-bearing again on the surgical side I started having pain in my mid-foot. It has persisted since. Throughout PT, which ended just a couple weeks ago, the foot was examined on several occasions. My foot pain has been significantly greater than any issues with my knee. The best guess by PT is that the pain is related to some residual swelling in my foot. I do have residual swelling in my lateral knee as well, so this does make sense to me. About six weeks ago I started having pain in my medial heel of that same foot. The pain is worse after I exercise and at its worst (7/10) when I have been sitting or resting for periods of time (like first thing in the morning). I have wondered about plantar fasciitis, but have been told the pain is not typically super specific but more generalized. Mine is in a very specific location. I tried buying insoles at a running store and that seemed to make the pain worse. I have reached out to my ortho doc and he is wanting to do a brand new referral for the foot since my knee issues have been resolved. I have tried ibuprofen for pain but it doesn't seem to help much. I have been icing once or twice per day and using magnesium/arnica cream on it once per day. I have also tried some stretching, but perhaps not regularly enough. I am concerned this might be permanent. I do have a strong history of rheumatoid and osteoarthritis in my family and I am 51. I would appreciate any input you might have.

I forgot to mention that my repair was on the medial side, the same side as my heel pain.

I had a knee manipulation and a scope with meniscus and ACL repairs under anesthesia with 2 nerve blocks in my right knee 2 weeks ago and my nerves are still off the charts, zapping me like hot electric jolts randomly over my leg from thigh to foot.
Foot always tingles with some sharp jolts, but NOW I have this muscle or bone pain on the bottom of my foot pad and ankle. The pain is insane.
Worried because I was diagnosed with CRPS from ordinal injury of torn MCL and bone fracture and those nerve blocks and surgery could have made it worse.
