Looking for Information and positive feedback about Reclast
I have been diagnosed with osteopenia in my bone density testing. I have had Rheumatoid arthritis for 38 years and am 77. My Rheumatologist recommends me starting Reclast Infusions on March 23rd. I am apprehensive after reading about so many negatives and side effects. I have canceled the infusion once because I am stressing about what I read. Please help me by giving me some positive feedback if anyone has any!

Received my first infusion a few months ago. I seem to be slightly constipated but resolving this by increasing my water intake. Best wishes for your experience.
Hi @ivysmom There are a number of discussions in our Bone/Joint/Muscle group with members who are taking Reclast for osteoporosis. I know it’s difficult to decide which bone strengthening medication is best for your situation.
Here are a couple of links you might find interesting.

Have you been offered other medications for Osteoporosis? Or is this your first experience with bone loss medication?
I wouldn’t consider a prescription med with osteopenia. But there are many things you can do to prevent it from progressing to osteoporosis. Unfortunately, a recumbent bike is not a weight bearing exercise, and won’t do anything for your bones. You can build your bones with a jumping program, if you haven’t had a fracture, 10-20 small jumps a day, 30 seconds apart. Also, try some weight lifting, light weights and build up slowly and also dancing. If you’re able, Pickleball is great at building bone. Read about separating calcium supplements or foods from grain, nuts, iron rich foods and beans by 2 hrs. Good luck
I'm trying to prevent osteoporosis and added more weight-bearing exercise. I'm including schlepping in bags of groceries after shopping and anything else that is also legitimately weight-bearing and also resistance training. The latter was developed by the milltary as potable 'weights' exercise and can be done pretty much anywhere.
@judith580 I have been this for the last for 2 yrs now Infusion once a yr. I have had no bad reaction from this and my dexascan is much better then when I started.I,ll have my 3rd in Sept this year
Can I ask why separate the calcium supplements from grain, nuts, etc. I tend to take mine in the morning with a yoghurt/fruit/nuts/flax smoothie so am curious if I'm messing this up.
Has anyone heard of anything new to help restore/replace cartilage in the knees due to osteoarthritis?
I have had two infusions of Reclast with no reaction. I just had my dexa scan and was told I don’t need another infusion. I’m to wait until 2024 to have another dexa scan and the possibly have another infusion of Reclast if I need it. I walk two miles every day, take calcium pills morning and evening, and eat calcium rich foods. I’m glad Mayo Clinic put me on this treatment regimen.
