@cblum

I am scheduled for RSR on May 11th at Mayo Rochester. Some have commented about receiving a nerve block as their anesthesia. Is this a personal choice or something that the anesthesiologist decides? Thank you.

I believe you need a specialist to put in the nerve block. You should contact your surgeon ASAP to request one. Also ask for lots of topical anesthetic before they insert the block. The first time they didn't use enough and the block insertion hurt more than the surgery. The 2nd time I asked for more local anesthesia and it was a piece of cake. Can't begin to tell you how effective a nerve block catheter is. Mine lasted 5 days for both shoulder surgeries, including TRSR with pretty much no pain. Think I took a couple of Tylenol. I wouldn't have this surgery without it. Good luck.

Good luck.

I also has RSR at Mayo Rochester last year. The anesthesiologist inserted the nerve block before surgery. No Pain. I had the nerve block for 4 days with no pain in my shoulder. After taking out the nerve block I only used Tylenol and Advil for pain.
