Has anyone had a tight band feeling after total knee replacement?
I am 8 weeks post TKR and have had this very tight band around my knee since week one. My Dr at 6 wks says it is normal and will go away. Has anyone else had this and did it go away and when?

Yeah. I am six months to the day after double TKR and both still very tight and stiff. Some people say it goes away with use others have told it never goes away.
I had my right tkr done 6 months ago, had the band feeling for about 2 months and all good now. Had my left tkr a month ago, the band feeling started at about the two week point and is still there. On the bright side PT said that is very common, and should, and in most cases does go away with time, really weird feeling like one of those exercise bands wrapped around the knee. It should go away within a few months, if not I just look at it as more spring in my step:)
I am getting second opinion on Tuesday I will let you know how it goes….. I have experienced so much of the same …. I think I may have suggested to you water therapy and mfr it is life saver for me …. It did not fix what I think is something wrong but it helps with the pain …. Definitely easier moving in pool… I am done with water therapy but I am fortunate they let you pay 50.00 for 12 visits to pool so I will continue my therapy there … I do everything my self now which is fine my therapist taught me well I just miss the bend she gave me…. Hurt like heck had to walk it off but felt better afterwards….I don’t know where you are but check around for some places that offer water therapy….
No only at home but getting hardercand harder pretty swollen..Pains getting worse day by day so restricts my movements. Going .keep ut up and go to hydrotherapy see if it helps. Waiting on tests and Scan to be done. Then go from there meantime doi g exercises and massages at home..Talk soon with an update. You kerp up the goodxwork..👌😉🇦🇺
Hi Deb. Mfr is myofascial release massage. I've only been once so far. I broke my knee in 2018 and had the right band feeling for 3 years. That Dr only offered a shot in the knee but it didn't work. Went to a new Dr and he did a knee replacement. I was so hoping the band would go away but it's still there. That was in June 2021. Still there after pt. I'm still gonna have some more mfr then on June 1st I have another Dr appt. If mfr hasn't worked he's gonna do bloodwork and I think a scan. Can't remember for sure. That's where I stand so far.
That’s great hopefully you will get some answers …..must been nice just having dr listen to you and willing to look into other possibilities of something may be wrong is fantastic….mfr is short for myofascial release helps break down scar tissue and helps with edema. I go once a week if I could afford I would go more but most insurance do not cover. Please keep us posted …. I hope helps lighten depression a little and gives you hope…..
I still ice every nite …. And I use rolling pin for like 8 minutes every night I found video on you tube to help swelling .
Hello , I am so sorry you are going through this. I have had TKR 3 years ago and 7 weeks ago they reopened the knee to do the kneecap. I also am having similar issues this time around. Docs all say push harder on the PT. I’m always in pain and feel worse off than before. My advice is to take on day at a time, DONT BLAME YOURSELF. Do the best you know how and don’t give up on finding someone who will listen and help your situation. God bless and take good care! 😊
Thank you- I never thought of a rolling pin.
