Hi @thisismarilynb Sorry for the delayed reply. I was offline helping our daughter for a couple days, but am back now. My short answer to your question: Yes, I have done and continue to have counseling and personally have found it immensely helpful to me.

I was in counseling for most of my adult years. A combination of things, but it sure was a huge help to me. My wife and I were also in couples counseling as well as personal counseling and now our adult son and daughter both get regular counseling. I'm pleased we have a view that mental health is as important as our physical health. Plus a recognition that therapists can be as helpful for our health as physicians.

I did have to take a hiatus when my caregiving duties got too all-consuming to allow me time for counseling, but it was one of the top things on my 'to do' list post-caregiving.

Since COVID my therapist and I conduct our sessions via Zoom and are continuing to do that. I think I might like that more -- saves on commuting time and I find I can focus quicker on what I want to talk about.

Strength, Courage, & Peace

I went to this person four times. I really didn't get what he was supposed to or going to do to help me. Also it was a 46plus mile round trip on the freeway. Too much stress on top of what I am feeling. I get much more help from all of you on this site.

I have been following this conversation. @IndianaScott, you have been so kind in talking about your experiences and what has been working for you! Thank you for being so open. I just wanted to add that this post is "right on"! Our mental/emotional health needs rank up there with physical health, and it is a gift to ourselves to pursue those needs.
