Endoscopic transcecal appendectomy
My colonoscopy showed that I have a 4cm mass in the secum behind the IC valve. It seems to arise from the appendiceal orifice. Multiple biopsies were taken and the microscopic findings of this growth are not diagnostic of carsinoma. The surgeon, still saying that the polyp is precancerous recommends a right hemicolectomy, a major surgery. Searching the medical journals I found a comparitively much less procedure called 'Endoscopic transcecal appendectomy' to remove the appendiceal polyp. Please comment if you have experience with it. Welcome @atti44. It sounds like your diagnosis is raising more questions than answers. I agree that you should bring your questions to medical professionals. Have you discussed endoscopic transcecal appendectomy as a possible approach for your situation with your surgeon?
Endoscopic transcecal appendectomy is a relatively novel approach (new surgical practice), so not all treatments centers or surgeons may offer it. Have you considered a second opinion at a major learning medical insitution like Mayo Clinic?

I am not sure how to go about getting a second opinion with the Mayo Clinic. Do they have a contact email or phone number for this?

Hi Colleen, I got in contact with the Colon and Rectal surgery thru the coordinator and they refered me to the Gastroenterology Department. Unfortunately they cannot take me because a 3 months backlog. I'll try other medical professionals.

1 ReactionWhat other medical professionals will you try? I live outside the US, so I am trying to find out the quickest solution. I was told my cancer is very aggressive. I think time is critical.

Hi Jim, for cancer in the colon I would contact the Colon and Rectal Surgery department at Mayo. They referred me to the Gastroenterology Department, they are the very busy one right now. Wishing you the best, Attila
