It lowers your immune system and the nasal passages are always cleaning with your immune cells. after a while, these immune cells get exhausted, and makes way for more irritants to become susceptible into your body
. I am not a doctor, but I think it’s all related. If you look at the invasion your immunity goes through every day and then put a new virus into the equation( COVID)
The excess mucus makes sense.
I am assuming the virus is still overreacting to getting hit by a foreign entity.
I still use mucinex daily. I really think it is viral overload. That’s my opinion but like I said, I’m not a doctor.
Did you ever find a remedy? I’m experiencing exactly what you describe since middle of April 2023. I had a hip replacement in march. I’m active and a personal trainer. The costa t swallow I have is truly annoying! Now feels upper respiratory.
I kind of go with Occum's Razor and would look for the most common causes of stuff and exhaust those before looking at the less likely or sheerly anecdotal. I suspect that many people have experienced something similar caused by any number of things including allergies, pollutants, colds, etc. There are over-the-counter decongestants that help slow the production of mucus or dry it out. The only one that works for me is pseudophedrine hydrochloride. No prescription is required but you have to buy it at a pharmacy as it's sale is restricted because fools use it to make crystal meth. (I've never had any luck with the steroid nasal sprays.)
