I’m not sure if I’m posting this is the correct group. My psychiatrist has me on Xanax. Very sensitive to meds. Tried different anti depressants and not successful. He told me to try Seroquel. I’ve been taking 1/4 of 25 mg in am and 1/4 in pm. But I’m still very anxious. He told me to try 1/2 of 25 mg in am and 1/2 in pm. He also said it’s safe and you could stop it anytime. It’s not addictive. Any thoughts? Thank you.

@flow65, you posted perfectly. I moved your question Seroquel (quetiapine) to this existing discussion:

Flow, besides medications, what other things do you do for yourself to help reduce your anxiety?

I started seeing a psychiatrist about seven weeks ago.She put me on Seroquel 12.5 in a.m. 12.5 in afternoon and 25 at bedtime. When she raised the bedtime to 50mg. it was too much. I had gene testing done to find the right antidepressants and there is only three that I can take and the one of the three is Pristiq which I was already on and the Seroquel was added. According to the gene testing I shouldn’t be taking Seroquel,so I don’t know what to do next.
My PCP won’t prescribe anything for pain or depression. I went to the ER twice and they gave me a script for Tramadol for two weeks until I have an appointment with StMary’s Pain Management. It doesn’t work for me for pain but at 25mg twice a day has been incredible for my anxiety.
The jury is still out on the Seroquel
and the Tramadol which according to the results of my gene testing Tramadol and Codine are two medications that I should not take.
The results of the gene testing came back after I was already on those meds.
We just have to keep trying.

Do some deep research on Seroquel and then decide if you want to take an antipsychotic. Doctors love handing out antipsychotic prescriptions using them off label for people who are not physchotic. I refused to take it after researching.

I take seroquel at nite has help ne a lot. But 25 mg is too low i think

I'm still on Seroquel and have been for at least 12 years. Works well to reduce dreadful episodes of anxiety. I went off of it briefly and had immediately return of symptoms. I think of my meds as being similar to meds for any other illness.

Hi,
I've been on seroquil for a while now(yrs). Though I do take less than they (Dr's) tell me to bc I too am sensitive to medication&If I did take As much as they want me to I would sleep 24\7. I use it for sleep&anxiety+anger type issues? I Guess you'd say 25mgs during day 2X [tho I prefer either ½ 25or to use my Buspar]&100mgs for bed(tho I prefer less{25mgs}. I've a lot of medical conditions that require meds and many=sleepiness so...it's a difficult balance. My husband had to stop taking them bc anything above 25mgs&he became like nasty. I've NEVER heard of addiction to it except with people who already struggle with addiction issues. Good lUck!
