Rare colorectal metastasis to pancreas
Hello,
My husband almost 4 years out from colorectal cancer, 10+cm tumor in rectum, top of colon. Chemo to shrink, resection with great margins, chemo. Did well with clean scans and low markers until December. Found a very small < 2cm and early tumor in the tail of the pancreas which they originally thought was a new primary pancreatic cancer in the head. Pathology (2 opinions- one local and one Mayo) have now said the cancer cells are actually not pancreatic, but they are metastasis of the original colorectal. No other organs involved as per recent PET/CT. Very rare. Our Mayo surgeon-oncologist is encouraged by this discovery. He will be doing a distal pancreatectomy. He feels my husband may or may not need chemo following. Any experiences you can share with any of this? I am most grateful for these discussions and I think good thoughts for everyone on here every day-

@hope222222, what a miracle that they found the tumor on the pancreas early and while it is small and that no other organs appear to be involved. To learn more about what to expect from a distal pancreatectomy, you may wish to visit the discussions in the Pancreatic Cancer group. I know that your husband's lesion is metastatic colon cancer, but the surgical experience will be similar. See the discussions here:

You're in good hands at Mayo. When will he have surgery?
Thank you so much!
