Yes, I take a 40mg pantaprazole ppi 1/2 hr. before supper.
What does the gastroenterologist suggest you do? Have you tried Gaviscon? If you can't control the irritation with diet, you might want to try to take that after meals and before bedtime, to avoid further irritation. Or take Tums when you feel symptoms (such as burning, or the need to cough). Did the doctor say if you have a hiatal hernia and if they want to treat that in some way?
Low acid, low fat, low sugar .. eat smaller meals (soft cooked foods & tender meats are easier to swallow and to digest) & increase how often you eat to 5-6 meals.. keep a journal to help figure out what worsen your symptoms. If you eat a bigger meal eat it midday.
Can you take Pepcid AC? I was told to take it before bed. .. I take it a half hour or an hour before.
I also found that very hot or very colds food & drinks cause me esophagus pain. So I never have ice in my drinks and do not eat frozen desserts like ice cream. Refrigerator things like pudding, cottage cheese and drinks I can do refrigerator cold. Hot drinks need to be just past lukewarm.
ZeeGee
I take pantoprazole in the morning and also creon for pancreas divisum. I take two pills before I eat and one pill before a snack.
For the past week I have had a burning in my throat. I eat bland food,no spices, lemons, salt or pepper. Has anyone else experienced this before?
Going back to my gastroenterologist in a couple weeks.
I was diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus in Dec. 2022 at age 41. To be frank, I'm very concerned. For one thing, I have it at a relatively young age, and I am underweight. Neither of these traits is typical of people who get Barrett's. If anyone here is in a similar situation and has any insights/experiences/tips to share, please do.
Also, I have 2 questions:
1. Should I get a biopsy?
The 2 doctors I have talked with so far did not bring up the biopsy. They only told me to have the yearly endoscopic surveillance and not to worry too much, but I'm skeptical.
2. Should I start taking PPI?
Currently, my symptoms are fairly manageable. Heartburns are occasional and not severe. More of an annoyance than pain. I've made lots of changes to my diet and lifestyle since I was diagnosed with BE 2 months ago, and I'm planning to take another endoscopy soon. I know that BE will never go away but if the next endoscopy shows some improvement in other areas of my esophagus, e.g. in areas that are still in the inflammation stage, would it be reasonable to try to manage my BE & acid reflux by dietary and lifestyle changes alone? Or is it too risky to live a life without PPI once BE is formed?
Fish is fine to eat. Don't ever drink apple cider vinegar. Some people think it helps with reflux.
It's like pouring acid down your throat!
hello. if i simply post here, will i get updates on this subject, [Barrett’s esophagus: Your tips and treatment]
I am suffering dredfully with this. thank you.
I have BE with high dysplasia. I have had two ablations and I am scheduled for my next endoscopy in Feb.
I am on 40 mgs of omeprazole, twice a day. That has alleviated any GERD I was having. I have cut out coffee and other acidic foods. Hopefully, the actions taken will prevent things from progressing.
I have Barrett’s esophagus too. I’ve had 4 RFA’s. So far so good, I’m on 40mg of Omeprazole a day. My problem was gerd after lying down in bed on a full stomach. It was terrible. Other than dieting I suggest NOT to go to bed on a full stomach. I eat at least 3hrs before bed and never on a full stomach. Hope this helps.
The only thing you can do is go on a low acid diet. No soda, booze, vinegar based products, no tomato products or fried fast foods. Drink water,
Green tea, unsweetened almond milk and low acid coffee like health wise. Cut out salt, pepper, and most seasoning. I take a ppi for my BE and on my last scope there was no sign of BE. The diet does work.
