Going off of Xanax
I have been taking Xanax for 25 years for Fibromyalgia and Anxiety. I am trying to wean myself off of it. Has anyone done this?

Thank you for that powerful reply.
I’m rooting for you!
There is nothing more powerful than DECIDING that we as individuals are ultimately responsible for our care physically and mentally.
I’m embarrassed to admit that it has taken me most of my life to learn and live this on my journey. It’s not easy, but it’s better than I EVER could have imagined. I am finally free of feeling like a victim of my circumstances.
Your life/health is worth fighting for every step of the way.
My “personal” rebellion started when my GP told me that I would NOT be able to taper off the anxiety meds.
Ultimately, that statement was something that I decided that NO ONE has the right to make that decision but ME. I’m 67, and my health is MY responsibility.
I’m rooting for ALL of us out here fighting for ourselves and our health.
Your doctor can’t do this to you. It’s imperative that you come off Paxil very very slowly! I’m talking extremely slowly. Have you spoken with the doc after he cut you off? I’ve never heard of this. Why did he do this? You may get very sick.
Again, Thank You! I am trying to get over the anger of blaming the Doctor who prescribed Lorazepam for almost 15 years and the horrible things that have happened to my body. I was negligent in not reading the info attached to my prescription, I never gave it a second thought. We really do trust our Doctors and would never think they would in any way harm us. Everyone is saying the Doctors are in cahoots with the Prescription companies. Ultimately it is our responsibility to be informed of what we ingest in our bodies.
Wish I would have seen something like this 9 months ago. You never realize how bad any medication is until you stop it.
If you don’t mind answering, what are the horrible things that happened to your body?
My doctor prescribed Xanax, .25 mg, 8 years ago for sleep after my sister died very suddenly. I occasionally take them for insomnia and/or anxiety. 20 pills usually lasts me several months, so I don't take them often. I have never felt addicted or suffered any negative consequences from taking them. Reading some of the comments on this forum makes me a little anxious about taking them.
Go off very slowly… my son was taking them, not n easy task..good luck
Switching over to Valium would help. Google Ashton Manual.
I take 1/2 tablet of xanax to shut my mind off or I just lay awake for 3 days sometimes. Then, I went to ABQ, New Mexico for the weekend and my primary sent the script for this medication to ABQ CVS pharmacy and they notified me on my home phone, not my cell phone which if I had received the message, I would have picked it up while there so my son is mailing it to me. AARGH. I do take Tizanidine and it helps me go to sleep along with Seroquel which I do not like to take.
