Hiccups can be so disruptive and uncomfortable. I'm tagging @gaybinator @duvie @jimchardy @concernedmtnmom @patriciagsr @walisky on this conversation to share their experiences with having a G-tube and hiccups.
@dsd1939, do you have a G-tube after esophageal cancer surgery? Are you on chemotherapy? I ask because some chemotherapy drugs can contribute to having hiccups. See this discussion:
- Have you ever had hiccups with or after chemotherapy? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/have-you-ever-had-hiccups-with-or-after-chemotherapy/
What do you do to help with preventing hiccups or stopping them once you have them?
My wife is has the G-tube and experiences hiccups from saliva build up above the stricture in her esophagus. She is waiting for a complete diagnosis of the stricture. Recently, they seem to come on during and after the tube feeding, but subside after a while.
Do you have a contact number for an ostomy nurse that you can talk to or another specialist on your cancer team?
She is seeing her physician tomorrow regarding what his ultra-sound showed and if there is cancer. And, what means he recommends to remove the stricture. Thanks for your response.
She did get a diagnosis of a malignant carcenoma in the tumor constricting her esophagus, so it's now a treatment from the oncologist.
@dsd1939, I'm sorry to hear about the diagnosis of cancer, but I'm glad the source of the constriction was found. When will you meet with the oncologist to determine next steps for treatment?
We meet with the oncologist tomorrow to begin treatment. Thanks for your responses.
@dsd1939, I hope the meeting with the oncologist went well. Do you have a treatment plan now?
Yes, we do. She had a PET scan Friday, will see the radiologist Monday, chemo class on Wednesday, with injections once a week and radiation (weekly I think) for 5-6 weeks, then another PET to see results.
Again, thank you for you effort in staying in touch, it is comforting.
