Replies to "Does anyone suffer from Costochondritis that gets worse when they eat or drink anything? I have..."
This sounds like me. My pain is all on my right side. Started close to 3 years ago 1 month after an illness in 7/20 (I believe it was COVID). I have since been to multiple doctors with many tests and bloodwork all to show nothing is wrong with me. Makes me feel so dumb at times like they think I am making this pain up. I have had breast surgery '92, tubal in '95, gastric sleeve in '14 and cholecystectomy in '17. So many surgeries to the area of pain. Other than surgeries, I havent had any large blows to the chest area except I wrecked on my bike as a child where the handle bars hit my ribs but not causing any severe pain that I recall. My pain all started in the RUQ. Off to the right side of the triangle under my rib cage and has gone up under my right breast to the side of my ribs to my back (like I have an arrow threw my back to under my right rib) to my right clavicle and then referred pain down my right side. Started out feeling like I had a stone under my right rib cage to now a rock at times. Its been constant gnawing, stabbing pain for almost 3 years all right sided. This pain has cause me much anxiety because I worry at "what is wrong with me" and depression cause I feel like "I have no answers". I dont get much sleep due to the pain which xasperates everything. I am turning 60 this year and WAS feeling like this is MY time to get to enjoying LIFE. More time (working only part-time from home now) I was finally able to start golfing more, bought myself my own motorcycle, use Supernatural on my Oculus for exercise and have big hobbies to start but this pain has puts a hold on everything but will not give these things up! On good days I do what I can and then greatly pay for it later. In the beginning not know what was wrong I tried a gallbladder diet, then a liver diet/cleanse to a FOODMAP diet, to anti-inflammatory diet, to vegetarian diet to lectin free diet. I've lost 40lbs but still in pain. I do have a small hiatal hernia and cyst on liver but told that neither should cause the pain I feel. Doctor finally after 2 yrs/9 mo have finally said Costochondritis/scar tissue pain! Nothing they can do except medication or pain injections. Also suggested I try 800mg of ibuprofen ever 4 hours for 4 days. I am NOT a medication person ugggh! I feel at wits end but wont give up and stop life. Anyone??
Hello @bfort and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. How long have you been living with these symptoms?
