hip symptoms or...
I was getting PRPs which helped my bone on bone hip joint (groin pain). It worked. THEN I developed sharp pain in the middle of my left butt cheek. If this 'catch' would happen (due to certain movements) it would radiate down the back of my leg (same side). All of this is on the same side. I've seen doctors who disagree. I was wondering what symptoms you've had and what was wrong. Please.
First a doc said pain in the middle of the butt cheek (aching/radiatng down the back of the leg) wasn't from the hip jojnt but from the back. I saw a back surgeon. (xrays and mri's) No back problems. No diagnosis either. Of course one doctor don''t want to disagree with one in the same organization...I get that. I saw my pain doctor who said it's the SI joint. He's going to do an injection procedure to verify.
So I have two problems. A bone on bone (groin pain) resolved with PRPs. This new pain is SO much worse and disabling. So my question to you people is what symptoms did you have for your hip joint problem that having a hip replacement fixed? You...not asking you to diagnose me. Please. Thank you.

Hi @lynneat - Man, that does sound painful. I know there are several members that might have some good advice.
I'd like to invite @ofemipupo and @loribmt to the conversation.

What all have the actually ruled out besides back/disc issues?
Back/discs are ok. My pain doc said it's likely the si joint. I am bone on bone hip....but that in MY case is groin pain only. Goes away with PRPs. I'm wondering the symptoms you all had with hip joint issues. That will help me understand what's in my future PERHAPS 🙂 Thanks. I'll go to the site you sent me.
If you all had groin pain before hip replacement...or other symptoms, I just wondered what they were for you all. Thank you much!
I had horrible groin pain before hip replacement, went on for several years because nobody looked at my hips, I was petite, and only in my 50's. Couldn't even walk up the stairs properly - finally, the pain doc said it's not your back, let's get some images. And he sent to an ortho that said I had the hips of an 85 year old.
Haven't had groin pain since the surgeries almost 20 years ago. It also resolved knee pain and back pain from bad gait and limping. But my SI joint can get pretty sore if I'm not careful to keep it stretched and to sit properly.
Are you contemplating hip replacement? I have never regretted getting rid of the pain.

Thank you for those words. Exactly .my symptoms. I can get prp's for hip joint for now. I'm going to my pain doc next week for an Injection for pain and inflammation. Gkd bless you and thank you for answering
So sorry. God not gkd. 🙂 That's what I get for typing on my cell phone.
Since my back surgery in 2010 I have had chronic back pain. When my groin and inner thigh began to have pain I thought it was related to back issues and a local doc was ready to do another back surgery. I sought second opinion from Mayo and the problem was correctly diagnosed. I had THR surgery in Nov. 2021, am walking upright with no pain and no cane. This surgery even lessened my chronic back pain. I am grateful I did not go ahead with another back surgery.
Second opinions are priceless. So glad you found relief!
It was not only a second opinion, it was the fourth opinion. I just didn't feel comfortable with caregivers who only looked at x-rays of my back, but didn't examine my groin and thigh area/pain.
My situation was very similar. I had groin pain for years, which I knew was my my hip. I put off the hip replacement because I "wasn't ready". I should have done it sooner. I developed a sore painful spot in the middle of my left buttock. When I stood in one place for more than a few minutes, it would radiate down my leg and was excrutiating. The back doctor said it was my hip and the hip doctor said it was my back. We agreed to pursue my back first. An MRI showed some disc degeneration and osteoarthritis. They did an SI joint injection first with a little relief. Then they tested L4-S1 by numbing injections. That seemed to locate the problem, so I had RFA (radio-frequency ablation) done. The helped a lot with the stiffness in my lower back and movement, but that nagging butt pain remained. I finally had the hip replacement. (anterior approach at Mayo Rochester) It really does take a year to completely recover from THR. I no longer have the groin pain or buttock pain. I still have some issues with lower back pain and stiffness, but those are probably true back issues. My struggle now is gaining back strength.
What stretches do you do for your SI joint?
Thanks
