Has anyone experienced bruising while on Tamoxifen? If so, what did your physician recommend? Did you have to discontinue it?

I have been on Tamoxifen for 8 years now and definitely have noticed some bruising. I asked about that at my yearly check up at Mayo and was told it could be a side effect of Tamoxifen. I was 62 when I started taking it. Bruising not real bad just superficial on tops of my hands or arms if I work in yard a lot etc. And age could be a factor now too but my husband is eleven years older than me and his bruising is much worse and he definitely not on Tamoxifen lol Other than that I would not even know I take it. No other side effects.

How long have you had the bruising going on? For the whole eight years?

Actually for the whole time I have been on it. As I said not really a big problem and the bruising fades quickly so fairly superficial. I take 20 mg a day.

We definitely bruise more easily as we age. The skin becomes thinner, reducing the barrier between skin and the blood vessels that burst to cause bruising. Skin also loses some of its fatty layer lowering the body’s protection against even minor bumps and blows. I have noticed that I get bruises after gardening and don't even recall any definite reason for them. I don't think tamoxifen has increased this tendency to bruise. https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/healthy-aging/in-depth/easy-bruising/art-20045762

I've been on Tamoxifen now for about 2 months and no bruising. I did have bruising when trialing the letrozole, but the bruises went away once I switched away from AI's to the Tamoxifen...that said there is a rare side effect of stroke or blood clot with Tamoxifen so it is a very good idea to go get the bruises checked out. I have no idea if the two things relate to each other, but better to be safe than sorry!

This is why my doctor recommended the baby aspirin.
