Hi @ch2232, first of all, congrats on successfully tapering down to 0.5mg of lorazepam. The home stretch can be especially challenging. As you likely already know, it's important to go slow. But how does one go slow once they've reached 0.5mg? In addition to @lindasmith1222's comment, I'd like to also invite @healthlady22 @cdcc @grandmar @audriana @elwooodsdad @sears @laleewal68 @ainsleigh @vfrifr and @layla26 to weigh in with their experiences.
Ch2232, how long have you been taking lorazepam? And of that time, how long have you been on 0.5? How are you feeling on 0.5?
@ch2232
Hello,
My name was mentioned to join this discussion. I've never been on Lorazepam. I've been on Effexor and successfully reduced my dosage in half. I'd be happy to share how I did it and the results if it would be of interest to you.

@ch2232 I take lorazepam occasionally now, 1mg. I did take it regularly before bed, way back around 2005-2006. My doctor never mentioned that it could be addictive until I had been taking it for a long time. When she mentioned that, I stopped taking it and I actually had no problem with it except that I was back at ground zero and having anxiety interfering with my sleep -- I was going through a very difficult time. I don't remember if it was 1mg or.5mg, probably .5, but I think at that dose it may not be too difficult, especially if you try as you mention, taking just a half pill.
I guess some of us get addicted to these things more easily than others but I have taken a number of different prescriptions over time that are said to be addictive yet never had a problem when I stopped. Try the half dose and see how it goes. I would think it would go fairly well. Have you spoken to your doctor about it? He/she maybe be able to give you some guidance if you are having a problem. Pharmacists can often help too.
If you are having a problem and you are taking it primarily for sleep maybe you should try melatonin. Many people have success with that. It is not recommended that you take more than 3mg because more than that tends to cause nightmares. It is best to start at just 1mg and go up to 2 and then 3 if the lower dose does not help.

Very very slowly!!
I was prescribed Adavan after a surprise bouht of depression, I had had a stroke five weeks earlier and then a devestating accident to a pet. My world as I knew it no longer existed. A week at Mayo Mother Clinic I was ready to fight my way back. They prescribed 5 mg every 6 hours. The pharmacy and my regular Dr told me of the dependecys so I finished 20 and then I started to go every 12 hours and every other day until I could safely hand the rest of the perscription into my Dr. I know with out them I would not have recovered from this Demond . It was not easy with out them. I had a lot of helpCDs I listened to 24 hours a day,but what really turned my life back almost immediaely was the sudden tragic death of a friend. How bitter sweet. What caused my depression stopped my depression.
I have been on !exapro for 8 years and in remission until this past year. My fatigue was overwhelming and I realized I had slipped back into major depression. My Dr. Increased my Lexarpro 1 1/2 and added 2 Wellington in A.M which seems to be working. Is anyone on this same combo and if so how long and have you had any side effects?
Hi my name is pamee. I need help as I have a rare disorder from Ativan. It's horrific excruciating pain 24/7 with minimal sleep so I'm also sleep deprived. The pain is killing me at times I want to die. I take 2 mg 4x a day fir 13-14 yrs and recently been having blackouts. I'm scared. Can anyone please give me suggestions whether I taper one dose at a time or should I taper all 4 doses in a day at about 1/4 of the pill. Thank you for any help you can give. Kind regards, pamee
Have taken small doses ~ under 2.0 since 1992 ~ Now on 0.5 at night and .25 at noon time ~ I can not seem to get past the 0.5 at night and the .25 at noon ~I am now thinking about tapering off that dosage. I work with a Nurse Practitioner while trying to cope with this very slow taper and starting to feel I need to stop taking current dosage but it is very difficult to do so. At a loss at the moment but would like to be drug free ~ It is the only medication I take ~ Am almost 76 years old and want to get back to feeling good again ~ Medication causing blurry vision, anxiety at times, my gait is off and overall malaise ~
I also meditate in the am, do yoga and a balance exercise and meditation readings.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I have tried the Ashton method and may go back to it ~ Thank you.
I’ve been on lorazepam 0.5 mg for many years. Recently, a bout of diverticulitis prevented me from refilling my prescription (and if I’m being honest, I took 1 mg on some days, which caused my supply to deplete before the next refill). It has been 6 days since I’ve taken the medication. I’m reading that you’re supposed to taper off gradually, and am certain I’ve experienced withdrawal.
I’d like to get off this drug completely. Am I safe? I’m due to refill my prescription today. Should I pick it up, and take a partial pill?

It takes a long time for my body and mind to get used to the lower taper. As long as it takes it is worth it. I feel more anxiety and sleeplessness
