Endometriosis Excision
I have a long history of Endometriosis and multiple surgeries. In 2014 I underwent a hysterectomy and removal of my left ovary due to a chocolate cyst. At the same time my vaginal cuff was rebuilt and endometriosis was removed from that area. The remaining lesions were cauterized. In 2015 I had a second surgery due to recto vaginal endometriosis and all areas were cauterized. Then in December 2020 I had a large right ovarian cyst (6.5 cm) removed and more areas of endometriosis were cauterized throughout the pelvis (including the bladder flap and left pelvic area). I have been working with women’s health in Jacksonville and Dr. Destephano. I have started pelvic PT, taking a Valium suppository nightly for pain and have a Botox injection procedure scheduled in early January. Since I am a school counselor, I am hoping the injections can get me through until June and then I can schedule the first week of summer break.
In the end, it looks like I am looking at another surgery (recent MRI showed multiple lesions, including on the vaginal cuff again). I have a video appointment scheduled with Dr. Wasson in Arizona, as I have done extensive research and she seems to be highly specialized with endometriosis excision. Does anyone have previous experience with either Dr. Wasson or Dr. Destephano and endometriosis excision? I am also looking at recovery time, etc. Dr. Destephano also mentioned Pelvic Peritonectomy. Any information/experiences would be greatly appreciated! I am more then willing to travel to Arizona for Dr. Wasson.

Hi @nestletea, Allow me to connect you with fellow members who have experience with endometriosis, like @loren12 @phoenixzip @asegura @airey2 @karenolac @kaitlyn @roch @king75 and who may be able to offer experiences with excision and managing pain until you can have surgery.
Have the pelvic floor exercises and valium suppositories been helping to manage the pain?
The pelvic floor physical therapist had to stop internal manipulation, as it was causing a major flare in pain symptoms. She is focusing on external myofascial releases and biofeedback to strengthen the muscles and hopefully release them. The Valium does seem to be slightly helping the pain level. I am hoping the Botox injections will work!
Since I am looking at scheduling Endometriosis Excision through Mayo, I have done extensive research on the doctor's who specialize in this area. According to my research (and reading research articles written by Mayo doctors), it looks like Dr. Wasson in Arizona (video appt scheduled in January) has the most experience with excision. I am currently seeing Dr. Destephano in Jacksonville, FL, however, I want to make sure I schedule with the most experienced surgeon with the best outcomes. I am willing to travel to whichever Mayo campus to have the excision surgery, and again am looking for the best Mayo doctor to perform the surgery. Thank you for any input.
Hi, I'm wondering if you have any more recent information to share about the specialist you settled on? I'm looking to have another excision surgery and would appreciate any insights you have on Mayo's docs. Thanks!
I went with Dr. Wasson at the Mayo Clinic in Arizona. She was absolutely phenomenal and removed areas in my bowel and bladder.
Awesome. Thank you! Could you share any insight on the time it took to get scheduled with her, etc as a remote patient? I live in Montana.
