Have there been any connections between Neuropathy and artificial sweetners. Any feedback is appreciated.

Hi John, i was diagnosed with neuropathy after an EMG in September of 2021. I also was diagnosed with Parkinsons disease in February 2021. i am 63 and have no idea how i got these diseases. i am on gabapentin and tramadol for the pain. i am constantly in pain even though it is moderate for a few hours after taking my meds. These diseases are very hard for me to endure day after day so therefore i am in search of what others have found to be helpful. i am seeing a neurologist. Any help you can provide will be so appreciated! Thanks Tina

Hi Tina, I'm sorry to hear you haven't found a better treatment yet to help with the constant pain. Neuropathy is bad enough and having Parkinson's Disease has to make it even worse. I'm wondering if the following discussions will help you learn something that has helped others and might also help you.

-- Member Neuropathy Journey Stories: What's Yours?: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/member-neuoropathy-journey-stories-whats-yours/
-- Living with Parkinson's Disease - Meet others & come say hi: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/living-with-parkinsons-disease-meet-others-come-say-hi/

I think what also might help is learning more about your health conditions and options that may be availble to help. Here are a few sites that have helped me learn more about neuropathy:
-- Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy: https://www.foundationforpn.org/living-well/lifestyle/managing-peripheral-neuropathy/
-- Neuropathy Commons: https://neuropathycommons.org/neuropathy/neuropathy-overview

Has your neurologist offered any suggestions to see if they might help?

In my experience avoiding artificial sweeteners or any processed chemicals has helped me a lot with my symptoms.

This is a cheat sheet of ingredients not to ingest in foods or drinks.

I think food is directly related to health issues and mystery illnesses.

Thank you for sharing your list! I agree, eating well, taking recommended supplements, and exercising is key to helping reduce at least some of the impacts of neuropathy.
