What's your experience with Vertiflex Superion Implant?

Posted by esperanza22 @esperanza22, Jul 27, 2020

Has anyone had the Veriflex Superion implant. I had it and it did not seem to work for me. Would appreciate any one that has information. Thanks

Had Vertiflex 4 months ago. At week 9 I became pain free. Just finished up PT last week. So far so good. First time in 20 years I have had so little pain. I do have intermittent tingling in the right leg which has not improved. I see doc next Tues and I'll post the outcome.

I've had 2 Vertiflex implants put in my back. The first one was implanted in January 2020. In April I had an epidural or pain shot which did no good but I had sporadic relief, but not consistent relief. It got worse over the next few months so my doctor installed a second one in July. Now my back is much worse. I have to walk with a cane, and everytime I stand up I feel like I'm going to fall. My back feels like it is not stable. My doctor was disappointed with the post surgery xrays, and said he expected a much better result. Now it's about 4 months since the second surgery, and I'm nearly crippled. My back was much better before the surgeries than it is now. I wouldn't recommend this type of surgery for someone who has a really bad back as I do. My prior surgery where they did a decompressive lamenectomy and a discectomy worked great for about 8 years. This Vertiflex surgery has only made my situation much worse. I wouldn't do it again.

I had two of the Inspiron implanted about two years ago I didn’t see any difference after the implants at all. My back condition has worsened as I have all symptoms of stenosis but my doctor says the MRI doesn’t show enough to warrant the mild procedure which I had three years ago and it worked wonderful for almost a year. The doctor that did my implants tell me they could be removed but since I don’t know if they are contributing to my current condition or not, I simply just cannot stand up straight for more than 15 minutes or so then I start leaning forward and within two hours I am totally exhausted. I was a very active nurse both at work and at home now I feel helpless and hopeless at times.

I don’t have any side effects from having the Vertiflex spacer put in 6 weeks ago but I’m as yet not sure how much it has reduced my pain. Now that I am doing more after the six weeks I feel that it hurts more. Does anyone know if in some cases it takes more than six weeks to feel relief. I am 78 and in good health other than my stenosis. Also does anyone know if they got injections after Vertiflex and it helped.

I had that procedure done about 11/2 ago it took me quite awhile to feel better but the thing it helped me the most was the heaviest running down my legs that has gone away but as far as pain I can go shopping now for a little while whereas before I couldn’t hardly go shopping at all I have stenosis and severe arthritis and need rods and I’m 76 yrs old the thing that helps a lot is stretching by back with taking some pain meds but I am glad I had the procedure done

What kind of pain were you experiencing prior to your Vertiflex Spacer put in. Do you have Spinal Stenosis. I am meeting with my Dr in a couple of days to discuss the implant . So far I am a little concerned with some of the comments in prior posts.

Thank you for your positive comments on your experience with the Veriflex Procedure. I am considering this procedureto get relief from my lumbar spinal stenosis. The comments I have seen regarding the procedure havde been vey confusing. Some think its great. Others report having a lot of pain after the procedure. My criteria in evaluating comments is --would you do it again? One thing that concerns me is how do you avoid bending, lifting and flexing for a 6 week recovery period? How did you handle this?Do you just need to stay isolated and do nothing? How do I put on my socks without bending? What do I do if I am out shopping and I drop my car keys? Your comments would be appreciated.

I had the procedure on Nov 15th. I am now 3 weeks post procedure. I am still having considerable pain in my low back and burning on my thigh. I am taking 3 meds from my surgeon to ease the discomfort. He urges me to be patient and let the implant heal. How long can I expect to have to deal with the pain?

Hi @esperanza22, can you tell me more about your experience with Vertiflex Superion implant? Was the expandable implant inserted in more than one place? Did you experience any relief? What was the procedure like?

Thanks for sharing your experience, Paula. It's been a couple of days since you had the shots. Has the pain subsided?

Sadly not a bit - worse than before my surgery - pain meds are not really helping..but I will tell you one of my friends shared some of her medicial maryj with me and this morning my pain is minimal and I am walking - Yikes who knew thanks for asking. I am hopeful it will get better - but I fear that me nerves were affected in surgery and this may turn into fibromyalga

I have 2 types of spinal injections and none of them had any therapeutic effect.
