Week 3 post TKR

Posted by amytro @amytro, Feb 24, 2019

Good morning! I am looking for folks to share their experience of the third week post-TKR. The first two weeks were very hard but I feel like I've turned a corner in week 3. Flexion is 113 and extension is 0. Still using pain meds on a regular schedule. PT is getting less excruciating, sleeping positions easier, etc. I'm now pretty much on the cane only, using the walker only to get me out of the shower. Does this sound right to others? Are you about in the same place? Mostly I'm interested in if you are still using the meds. I still need them!

Hi. Sounds like you are doing well. I'm scheduled for knee replacement on December 21st. I just received a packet of information about what to do before and after surgery. It says I will have PT twice a week. I'm wondering why you have PT every day at home. I will be going to a therapy place about 20 miles from where I live. It would be nice to have someone come here especially in the winter. I live in western Minnesota and we're getting our first snow tonight into tomorrow. 😟.

Good Luck on the 21ST . I am now on ... week 6 ??... doing ok , doing PT outpatient . Sleeping better , working full time and driving .. not much pain, just stiff and still swollen - guess that will stay a while. Trying to do a lot of icing and stretching , and feeling like I am def on the way to recovery. Wishing you the best , let me know how you make out !!! DEE

Well, there was a kink in my plans. Ended up getting Covid a couple weeks ago and asked my surgeon what they thought. I haven't been able to do the exercises lately and I'm off some of my RA drugs until I get over the Covid. So I decided to postpone it until February 18th. I think that will give me a little more time to get working on those exercises. Does your job have you on your feet a lot? I work at a convenience store where I'm on my feet for 7-8 hours a day. I'm hoping to get back to work Monday. Glad you are feeling good. Very good to hear from you.

Well that sucks ., excuse my language , you need that like a hole in the head. No, not on my feet , I have a desk job , I own my own insurance agency and sit at my desk, my job is phone and computer all day . I am trying to get up from the desk every hour and walk around the building , or outside the building , sitting for long periods is no good at all , better off standing , although hope you have a chair so you can sit now and then you wont be able to stand for 7/8 hours straight. Sorry about your setback . Good luck keep me in the loop .... dee

I am 3 weeks PO for a TNR and am having more pain tonight than I have for awhile. Can’t sleep and is frustrating. Did have PT today and worked pretty hard. Therapist also moved kneecap around for the first time and put pressure on top of shin. Anyone else have this experience? Do you have some days better than others. I was so happy before tonight with my progress. Sure don’t like this pain to be getting worse instead of better.

At 3 weeks this isn't that unusual. A lot depends on the physical shape you were in pre-op. If you were in great shape, post-op goes well most of the time. If not, expect a struggle but that makes it all the more important to stick with the PT post-op.

Not making any judgments. I'm seven weeks post-op, was in very good shape pre-op, and had pain through 5 weeks. Selling has finally come down. Stick with it.

For a minute I thought that was my leg! I have a very similar pic. I'm surprised they didn't put an aqua cell bandage on your incision. That's strange.
