Numbness in extremities and in urinary tract?
Hi all,
Kym here posting for my 88 yo mom. She has had numbness with very little pain. No longer drives. Struggles with balance. Can walk with a cane (or two) on flat ground for short distances. She also has urinary incontinence and has ne feeling of needing to go nor does she have any pain when she gets a UTI. She does have diabetes, sleep apnea, shortness of breath (most likely due to deconditioning), kidney disease (3B), etc. Does anyone have any suggestions, in addition to the advice she has to lose weight, be more active, get diabetes under better control? I'm thinking specifically for the urinary tract numbness as well as anything else y'all have to offer.

Neurogenic bladder to my knowledge has no cure unless whatever caused it is effectively delt with and I doubt a cure to Neuropathy is coming any time soon.
There are external urine collection machines available for home use now . My Mom was using one in the hospital and it worked great. I believe they cost around $500 give or take and I understand they they are covered by Medicare.

I think addressing one thing at a time might be a good start. Has she seen a doctor about the numbness?

3 ReactionsCan Cauda Equina Syndrome cause neuropathy? Can it be part of neuropathy or is it a completely separate condition? Can the "down there" numbness be part of Small Fiber neuropathy since SFN can affect the smooth muscles? So many questions about neuropathy but answers are scarce. Thank you for info!

Cauda equina syndrome (CES) is a particularly serious type of nerve root problem. There is pressure on the nerves at the very bottom of the spinal cord. The pressure on the nerves stops the nerves from working properly. If the pressure is not treated quickly then CES may cause permanent nerve damage."

1 ReactionI was diagnosed with it CAUDA EQUINA at a pain clinic and then spine clinic quickly remove the term and denied any discussion of it A big cover up I believe. I have all of,the symptoms which are progressively giving me problems
I have been told that it is my neuropathy that is responsible for my CAUSA EQUINA. I CAN NO LONGER WALK
This is a serious concern. I advise getting a second opinion ASAP. If you can be seen at the Mayo that would be best.
