Anyone taken Evenity (romosozumab) for Osteoporosis?

Posted by arlene7 @arlene7, May 27, 2020

Has anyone taken Evenity? I understand it’s only been on the market for a little over a year. I’m hoping it will help with my severe osteoporosis. Any information is helpful.

Yes for 10 months and have absolutely NO side effects. Can’t wait to do bone density scan. I hope much improved results!

I just got approved for eventity and will start my first treatment on November 11th. So I am crossing my fingers and my toes hoping that I don't have many side effects
On Sunday night I passed out in the shower and fell and miraculously did not break a bone I'm just really beat up with bruised ribs and inflammation internally of the muscles on my left side
But I am very grateful that I did not break anything given the state of my bones

@dgm123s You were very fortunate to not break anything. My osteoporosis was actually discovered after I had a pre-syncope episode and fell onto my tile floor. I had a minor hip fracture. My syncope was caused by extreme pain that I had from sciatica. I spent the day before in the car for many hours and sitting is one of the worst things for sciatica. I have only passed out once before when I had a very severe sunburn, when I was in my teens. I hope you are not prone to passing out, that could be problematic with osteoporosis.

Yes I agree I was very fortunate not to break anything. I have only once passed out prior to now which was about 14 years ago.

Hello, I am new here. I am 57 years old. My left femoral neck Dexa score is 3.2 which is what my doctor is worried about. I just started Evenity on Monday October 25. I am very nervous about the drug because of the listed possible side effects of a cardiovascular event or osteonecrosis of the jaw. I have had some dental issues in the past. I'm eager to hear about your experiences with Evenity and strategies on living with osteoporosis. Good luck to all of you! Lyn

Hi Lynester:
I started taking Evinity 9 months ago so have had 18 shots (2 each month). I have had NO SIDE EFFECTS at all. I fortunately had some fillings filled BEFORE I started the treatment. I also made sure I had no heart problems and took several tests just to make sure. The only thing I have once in a while is a black and blue mark on my arm but I now have the nurse tape ice on my arm and no black and blue mark! I think I have a similar score for my neck as you. I have osteoporosis and scoliosis. I hope after I have my new bone scan it will show huge improvement. I will display my old amd new scores for this site after the bone scan. Once again, thankfully no side effects. Also I took Beniva for 4 years and it did NOTHING to improve my bone density. The best of luck let me know if you would like to talk. We have to help each other!

Hi, Jasnat, Thanks so much for this response. It's really helpful! I'm a bit scared of Evenity because of the stated possible side effects. I have just had one shot--I am getting them on the sides of my thighs and had huge swellings like bee stings that last several days and were painful but then went away.

I may need to have a root canal. My dentist says that the risk of a negative outcome from it is very, very low but that's scary too as I have already started the EVENITY.

It is so helpful to have this response from you. None of my friends has osteoporosis that's as serious as mine so, besides my doctor and my husband, I don't have anybody around who is going through the same thing. Thank you so much for your response. I agree that we have to help each other!

Just to play it safe though I am not a doctor I would get off the Evinity and than have the root canal . The good thing is you’ve only had a couple of shots do not that much med on you. But your dentist knows more than me. Maybe what you should do next is have it in your arm and have them tape an ice pack on your arm.
