Hmm, the fact that stretching helps makes me think therapy might be useful too. Due to all the damage from the long-term metallosis, it could be that some muscles are going to need to "recruit" help to get you on the path to less pain.
Have you talked to your provider, or a pain management specialist, about getting a rehabilitative eval & PT? This would be a custom program for you, not a typical list of exercises and stretches shared with hip replacement recipients. My therapy included stretches, strengthening exercises, gait training (to improve posture & walking) - some on land, some in a therapeutic pool.
