Side Effects of Anastrozole - bone loss

Posted by cerwin @cerwin, Oct 2, 2021

I’ve been on Anastrozole 1mg for 6 months after right mastectomy for IDC. Has anyone had problems with thumb or finger joints? I researched “popping finger” and data say you need to wear a thumb brace for a month. I’m seeing my orthopedist next week.

My right thumb is the most painful. Left thumb pain and popping started about a week later, making me think the problem is systemic. Mayo doctors said to stop the endocrine therapy for 2 weeks to see if painful hand joints improve.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

This is very good advice for other readers. I do this now. I listen to meditation sleep music and classic every single day from 2-3. I usually fall asleep and wake fully refreshed. I also take ZERO drugs or supplements. When I was left to fend for myself, I bought every supplement I read about. Clean living and a whole food plant based diet with no oils is how I live my life now. And it seems to work. No more pains........

I just want to express a personal opinion here that religion, meditation, good diet and classical music do not heal cancer. I feel these posts are dangerous so I am posting my view in case others read them. I got IV's sitting next to a woman with these views and she died quickly.. By all means do all of those things along with legitimate cancer treatments. We can all say no to treatments but there may be consequences. It is our right.

No one is saying not to get traditional treatment. You need both . People have been healed who have strong beliefs and a positive outlook .patients have died with just traditional treatment.faith can only help, it does no harm.

I think it is important to take into consideration that everyone is in a different place with their treatment and personal situation. I also feel like some people don't believe that side effects from medications are real. In my personal situation it was explained to me that I metabolize medications very slowly so they stay in my body longer and hence I react differently than most. There is nothing I can do about that but I can make decisions for my care based on that fact. I have discussed with my oncologist my desires for treatment and she is respectful. When the medication severely alters my quality of life, and if the outcome is not a cure but to keep me alive for a period of months it isn't an option for me if I am sick the entire time. I try to take each day as it comes, after being off Anastrozole now for six months, I feel better than I have in the last year. My blood pressure is back to normal, joint pain is gone, I'm sleeping better, trigger fingers are no longer an issue, and I don't have the fatigue. For me it was the right decision and I will deal with what happens as it comes.

I agree, I don’t know if I it really ok for me to say this but I have just not responded because I wasn’t sure how to do it in a caring way. I believe every single person has a right to choose their own treatments when it comes to cancer. I also believe there will be informed choices and uninformed choices, and there will be outcomes that are sometimes based on those choices. If you believe God will heal your cancer, you might be right, but he might be sending you a doctor with the cancer drugs.

The flip side is that if your faith isn't strong enough or your attitude isn't positive enough, you might not survive- and it will be your fault. That is why I feel a need to post. We are already victimized by cancer and don't need to experience self-blame if it recurs.

I am sensitive to so many medicines, so I understand not being able to take some of them.
