Hi @rustyrose01 I see you’re new to Mayo Clinic Connect so I’d to take a moment to welcome you to our community forum. As you can see you’re not alone with having bodily tremors.
You were recently diagnosed with Functional Tremors. There is a difference between those and Essential Tremors as you may have read in previous posts.
Essential tremors are a neurological disorder and treated by a neurologist. However, Functional Tremors have nervous system symptoms that can’t be explained by a neurological disease or other medical condition.
The cause of functional neurologic disorders is unknown. The condition may be triggered by a neurological disorder or by a reaction to stress or psychological or physical trauma,
It sounds as though your neurologist is trying to get to the root of your tremors by making sure there isn’t an underlying psychological matter that may be causing your symptoms. That’s why there is a referral to a psychiatrist. I know that always gives the assumption that “There’s something wrong with you and you need to see a shrink”. I think that’s the sense I’m picking up from your comment. But it’s not any inflection on you whatsoever. Your neurologist is being thorough because he/she apparently found no neurological cause. Which I would think is positive news.
I found a couple of interesting links you might like to read. Good explanation of Functional Tremors.

How long have you had the tremors?
