Abscess MRSA after hip replacement
My cousin had hip replacement and got an abscess and now has MRSA.
He's having surgery to remove the replacement as I write this. They are going to cement in a cadaver bone loaded with antibiotics.
I was wondering if anybody had been through this and how your recovery went.
He was walking great prior to this.
Thank you for any advice you may be able to give.

Aw Jake, I’m so sorry to hear about the passing of your cousin. It sounds like you two were pretty close so it was really special that you were able to have a conversation with him. If your relationship was anything like my cousins and mine, you’ll have a lot of wonderful memories and stories to share. Hug
I’m so very sorry.
Thank you everyone!!
What a blessing and a comfort your condolances and thoughts mean to me. Almost all my family and friends are gone now. I keep thinking when my next friend or family member dies it will be easier but it’s always like the first time.
Thank you for your support.
Jake
I had hip surgery almost 3 years ago, Nurses pulled it out of joint in the hospital putting me on a bedpan.I didn't realize it until I went back 2 weeks later and had to have a second one 15 days later. In September an access came up on my hip where incision is. They did MRI and x rays and aspiration to hip to be sure no infection to the bone and that was ruled out. It has swollen back up and abcess is running again. I have been given 4 rounds of antibiotics to clear it up and every time I finish antibiotic it comes back. Has anyone suffered anything like this?
@galemoose Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect You will see that I moved your post to a discussion where members are experiencing this very thing. $ rounds of antibiotics is rough. Have they offered any other course of action?
Hip revision that MRI showed I didn't need was their option
Do you know if abscess was on the hip bone or on the outside. See me situation below
