I have had interstitial cystitis for many years. My pain ranges from tolerable to really bad, but I always know it's there. I urinate at least 10 times per evening, as my bladder always feels full. I have had two hydrodistension's. If your doctor didn't tell you about the IC Diet, here are the basics. No acidic foods or drinks, specifically, no coffee or tea, (even decaf), no citrus, no carbonated beverages, no chocolate except white chocolate. Coffee is without a doubt the thing I find most hard to give up, and it's also the most irritating thing to my bladder. Just when I start to feel a little better, I cheat and drink coffee. Full disclosure: I work at Starbuck's. I think the diet is very helpful and there are several easy to read books about managing IC. I will look up the name of my favorite and try to get back to you. If you are in a "flare" , eat very plain food. Baked potatoes, chicken, carrots, bread, milk (avoid rye bread for some reason).

I think that book may be unavailable, but there are quite a few on Amazon.
