Intermittent Fasting with Chronic Kidney Disease

Hi everyone. I was diagnosed with Stage 3b CKD a few days ago. I am Type 2 diabetic. I was placed on blood pressure meds and told to “drink more and cut down my protein.” I have been intermittent fasting for about 4 months. I’ve managed to lose 40 pounds and probably need to lose another 20-25 (according to the BMI). My a1c is now 5.6. My question is, now that I have been diagnosed with CKD, should I stop using intermittent fasting? Wondering if the fasting may have been doing damage to my kidneys?

Thanks for reading this. I am 48 years old with a wife and young daughter. I’m absolutely scared to death about this. Any information would be much appreciated!

Hello @citizenottawa, Welcome to Connect. Keep up the great work on the weight loss and healthy eating! Earlier in this discussion @LeeAase shared that his wife had stage 3 kidney disease and now has normal kidney function due to the changes she made - here is the post by Lee - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/597944/

@gingerw shared the following information earlier in the discussion on page 1 but I thought I would repeat it here for you. -- The American Society of Nephrology posted this article about IF and kidney disease https://www.asn-online.org/education/kidneyweek/2020/program-abstract.aspx?controlId=3448574

I'm sure your doctor is extremely happy with your progress. Have you discussed your concerns or questions with your doctor?
