Forteo vs. Tymlos: Which did you choose?
I have to make a decision on Forteo vs. Tymlos and am not sure what to choose. Forteo has been around a lot longer, but has to be refrigerated. Tymlos only around 1 1/2 years but is shelf stable and seems to have less side effects and less issues with calcium. Can anyone offer their perspective? Thank you!

@windyshores, Wow....I didn't know Tymlos dropped blood pressure. I have had to watch that in the past. However, I just finished two years with Tymlos and did not experience any change in my Blood pressure.
Chris
I read that it does go down 1-20 points. Mine reliably goes down 20 points (systolic) so I have to make sure my bp is over 100 before I take it. I got a bp of 92/45 one of the times and one time 77/something.
I sure wished my BP would go down instead of up then there would not be any side effects. All my problems stem from the high BP and pulse. My heart pounds too fast and pressures on my chest. And then some night nothing but the bad nights outweigh the good and I am fatigued and then do not get anything done. But I can tell that I quit Tymlos and felt better about being on it. And I still have three months' supply in the refrigerator. I hate to waste it. Maybe with cooler weather and winter coming, I would do better with it. Or try as one put it that they give the injection and then do their exercises. Maybe that would keep my BP down. How to know what is the best approach. I am glad others can tolerate the side effects if any. Thanks for sharing your experiences. It sure helps to know one is not alone. Now where do you go next on your journey to building bone? KLH
I meant 10-20 points. Are you taking your blood pressure? Do you have a cuff at home? The fast pulse is sometimes a reaction to low blood pressure so just checking. Did you only do a full dose? I ramped up too fast and the full dose made me have all kinds of symptoms including sore throat and swollen glands (hospitalization for afib was after a 1/2 dose!). Try starting with two clicks and move up to 4- over a few weeks . If your osteoporosis isn't too bad, then 4 clicks (12/ dose) might be helpful. If you really cannot take it, you could try Evenity.
@windyshores It sounds like good suggestions from your doctors. I hope things will continue to go well with this strategy.
The fluid in my legs may be exacerbated by having put on some weight and by having to drink about 70 ounces of water a day to offset the effects of my immunosuppressant.
I would be happy if my BP went down from Tymlos but so far it has not. I am borderline high, no meds so far.
@kilh I only see my endo yearly also but she does keep me informed and she's very good about responding to questions on the portal. I hope after your next appointment you will be better informed so you know exactly what you are dealing with.

Thank heavens for portals! I am up to 4 clicks, a half dose, and am finding it has fewer side effects in the morning. Interesting. It took me a month to get to 4 clicks and I will stay there for -10 days and then go to 5. Woo hoo. Don't want to jinx myself. Even if I can only get to 6 I will be happy.
Keep up the good work maybe 7 in the future. I still need the courage to restart. Stay safe. KLH
You won't feel two clicks. No side effects for me until 4 clicks. I am sticking with 4 until the headache goes away. If the headache remains, I won't go up any further.
Half a dose is better than quitting and surely it has to be building bone back. I do not remember headaches but a lot of fatigue and not getting much done. I am going to start tonight being Sunday is the first of the week. That will be easier to keep track of. How long do the headaches last or stop? Do they start again with another dose? What time of day do you give the injection? I always take it and go to bed within 15 minutes. But for years I have slept almost sitting up so I can breathe better but that does not help with my BP. So I have to start almost flat till the side effects start to go away. But I do not sleep more than 5 hours and I am awake in the hope I can fall back asleep for a few more winks. Do you take anything for the headaches or wait for them to quit? I hope you find some relief? Let me know how things turn out and how you are progressing. Hope for better days and stay safe. KLH
Good Morning thought I would tell you I did it last night. I took the two clicks. You are right no side effects. So I will keep this up for two and then move it up to 3 or 4 clicks. Thanks for the encouragement. Hope you got to 7 clicks are all right. Stay well and keep me informed. KLH
