Hello @lorirenee1. That's a nice perspective. The kindness and helpfulness of the members in this group is soemthing positive. I'm sorry that you're pain is often a 9-10. That is remarkable that the supplement can bring ti down to a 6-7 and even more so that at certain times of the day you have no pain! I'm looking into that first. Do you mind my asking only when you have time what brand you use and how much you take? Also, I've read that in a study 600 mg of alpha lipoic acid can help reduce pain in PN. I was wondering if you've experimented with that as well? Thanks again.

@greenacres Hi again, I buy Bestvite Benfotiamine 300mg. on Amazon. I take 2 pills a day, for a total of 600mg. Occasionally, I take 900 mgs., or 3 pills. Within about 2 days of taking it, my pain totally changed, and got way better. It's like a miracle. I had breast cancer 3 years ago, and was left with terrible foot neuropathy. What I think happened to me, after extensive reading about Benfotiamine, is that my breast tumor lowered my thiamine levels, causing neuropathy. It is the only thing that makes sense, as I have had every test imaginable to figure out what caused it, and only taking Benfotiamine lowered my pain. It just makes me think that I must have been low in thiamine, as tumors can lower thiamine levels. I suggest that you do give it a try. No harm in it. Also, I take Alpha Lipoic Acid in the form on NA R-Alpha Lipoic Acid from the company Immunovites, also bought on Amazon. The pills are 600 mg., and I take 2 a day. It is not as clear to me whether this lowered my pain, because I was already in significantly lower pain from the Benfotiamine. But there is such good research on NA R-Alpha Lipoic Acid, that I thought it could not form. You must take this form for the Alpha Lipoic Acid to be best absorbed. Anyway, I never imagined that I would be doing better, but I am. I would suggest to start with the Benfotiamine, for at least a month, and then add the NA R-Alpha Lipoic Acid. Take one at a time to start, so you can see more clearly what it does. I hope that you get some relief. Living with this illness is intensely hard, when it is not controlled. My best to you, LoriRenee1
