Hi @cilla, I am on inhaled Amakacin and yes I did cough when inhaling at first, just have a sip of water. I also lost my voice, my doc said to have a few days off the Amakacin then try again, washing your mouth out with water after the Amakacin and also have a Strepfen (strepsil with iboprofen) after the amakacin , it worked reallty well. It will get easier in time. The Amakacin has got rid of alot of my MAC so far, so worth persisting.
@heathert Heather, thank you for that suggestion of 'Strepfen', that is
good to know. -Terri M.
Hello Heather, can I get that over the counter? I think we start the meds almost the same time last year. How are you doing with your MAC? I thought I get off on the meds this year but the last CT scan I have found new nodules. My Pulmonary Dr. never did any sputum culture. I decide to see if I can see another Dr. Thanks for the help. Cila.
@cilla yes you can get Strepfen over the counter, its just Strepsil with anti inflammatory direct to the throat, it is a fantastic product. I am having a CT scan on friday then see my doc the following Friday so will let you know how I get on, the last CT around 6 mths ago showed nodules and cavities disappearing but some nodules untouched.
Good luck on your CT scan hopefully it will be clear I will say a prayer for you. Thank you for your help. Cila
Heathert...tomorrow is your CAT scan? Will think of you! When do u get results? Tdrell
yes @tdrell have had ct scan today, get results next Friday.
Hi Heather! Yes, please do keep us posted about your results.
@cila Hi
there! Katherine is taking a little bit of a rest for a bit. She is trying to
get her health straight, so myself and others will jump in to help. You can
still call the Dr you have been seeing ( even though you are switching over to
NJH) and ask he or his nurse about your issues with the sore throat and raspy
voice. Also, a pharmacist can answer that too; as to whether it is a side
effect to the amikacin. When I first went on inhaled tobramycin, I got those
same side effects. In fact I lost my voice completely (pretty sure my hubby
loved that- LOL) Was told it is a temporary thing and that it would pass. It did
pass after several weeks. You can Google more info on that medication too. Just
type in Amikacin side effects and a bunch of sites will pop up. You can try
gargling warm salt water to soothe your throat. Let us know how you make
out. Hugs - Terri M.
