Thanks...
Kinda perplexing.
In the meantime will continue saline nibs, aribika and The Vest treatments (It shakes mucus loose.)
I have had asthma since I was teenager 64 ys old now. I worked in the healthcare field also but took disability some time ago. I have been following this Mac link for about a year now and learning a lot.
Thanks for your input!
Shari
@pfists .. Shari, I am going to VERY honest with you. I am VERY grateful you are going to Mayo .. get your fanny there ASAP!! Mycobacteria abscesses is ONE nasty critter .. AND VERY difficult to get rid of .. one of the toughest. How do I know .. as the saying goes "I IS one"!! I had: MYCOBACTERIUM ABSCESSUS SUBSPECIES M. BOLETTI ISOLATES .. and was on antibiotic treatment for thirty months .. it is one of the TOUGHEST to get rid of. Due to my excellent Mayo Clinic treatment .. I have been "stable" from it since 2014. I was on INHALED Amikacin .. but your situation may be different. Get started! Please keep us posted .. we are here for you! Hugs! Katherine
Thanks Kathryn going to br calling Mayo for a cancellation daily and see if I can get in sooner. Hoping for Dr Aksimit but may have to get someone else on his team.
So you did not have to do IV's?
I got over a case of Narcodia two years ago where I had did Iv's on myself for six weeks then one oral antibiotic for a year. The Iv's were really tough all hours of the day.
Norcodia was rare but the Dr told me this mycobacteria is even rarer. Ugh
Glad I found you all to help through this!
Shari
@pfists, Shari, I did antibiotics PLUS inhaled Amikacin .. the inhaled Amikacin went DIRECTLY into my lungs. BUT each of our situations are different!
Shari, once you have an appointment way out .. THEN start NICELY calling the Pulmonary dept and requesting a cancellation .. tell them you are very active on Mayo Clinic Connect .. if they have never heard of it .. EDUCATE THEM! Colleen and all of us are trying to get the word out to all the doctors and staff people .. believe it or not MOST aren't aware of this WONDERFUL service to the patients!!
507-266-0413 .. tell them you would LOVE to see Dr. Aksamit but anyone on his team is fine since you understand the DO work as a team.
From my File Cabinet:
Minnesota campus for an appointment, here's the number: 507-538-3270

MAYO SCHEDULING .. ONCE YOU HAVE THE APPT https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/tips-for-first-dr-visit-and-testsappt-schedules/
FROM MEMBER @jillnc The one thing I wish the first dr would have told me is that when you get this schedule of tests/appts/blood work, you can go to the desk and see if they can get you in earlier. I had tests and appts spread over 4 days and was able to get all testing done within the first day and a half. Then I was able to get 1 of my 2 addl appts moved up. Which was nice because they ordered additional tests and I had pretty much freeded up a whole day (which was quickly filled with more tests). Everyone is very helpful. Just ask as you don't want to walk to the wrong desk to be told you have to go elsewhere **Rochester we have a "checker desk" located in the Gonda lobby and admissions area where patients can talk with a representative, discuss what appointments they would like to get into early and the checker desk does the calling to rearrange the patients schedule. This is strictly for consultation not testing. Also, please keep in mind that not all departments accept checkers but the majority do.
@katemn Ha!
My Dr at Mayo didn't know about this forum either. He thought it was
wonderful.
Thanks Kathryn
Will do!
Would I probably need to figure I will be there more than a day then?
Im relativity close could come back for more tests. I'm about and hour and a half away.
My infectious disease Dr here said shewanted me to go to the Mayo and she would work with them here too so it would be easier. So maybe some of the tests can be done here.
On a different note.
I have the Aerobika and put it in the baby bottle sterilizer to sterilizer. It seems not to clamp tightly shut now. I think it was safe for dishwasher washing.
I dicided to pop for a sterilizer to keep nibs easily sterilized.
Thanks!
Shari
Hi all,
Keep telling your docs about Connect. Hearing about it from you who have benefited from the forum is really powerful!
If time permits, you can also provide this link to them so they can find out more about Connect:
- Mayo Clinic Connect Promotional Toolkit https://socialmedia.mayoclinic.org/mayo-clinic-connect-promotional-toolkit/
- About Connect https://connect.mayoclinic.org/about-this-community/
Connect is operated by the Mayo Clinic Social Media Network under the leadership of Medical Director Dr. Farris Timimi and Director Lee Aase. (Just in case they ask. 🙂
@colleenyoung Dear Colleen, and to all of you on this team that made
this forum possible: YOU ARE AWESOME!
@pfists I
know several others on this forum have done the IV's, I think Katherine has. The
abscessus is hard to treat, so I know they like to use the big guns and get into
straight into your veins. We will be pulling for you! hugs -Terri M.
