Downsizing is not currently in the cards for me but I have seriously considered it in the past, especially while moving snow from the driveway 🙂 Here's an article that I received in my email this morning that I thought might be helpful for anyone considering making a move.

Thanks for the reminder John. We are at the "younger" end of people making housing decisions, because when we bought our home 38 years ago, it was intended for our young family. Since our previous experience was to stay in a home for a few years and move on, we never expected it to be what our girls call our "forever home" so it is not an ideal layout for aging, containing stairs all around.

But, it is ideally situated, within 2 miles of both daughters, close to good access routes, convenient to shopping, with excellent medical care of all types within 10-20 minutes. Oh yes, and my gardens!

So we continue to vigorously clean and dispose of unneeded possessions, trying to limit obstacles and make it easier to store/find that which we do need. Our son-in-law has a plan to install an actual elevator if needed, so we can continue to have total access to house and garage. Every update or remodel project includes a plan for accessibility in the future.

So - to date - cleaned 3 sheds, storage area, porch, laundry room (except 3 cupboards), guest room. The biggies to come: garage, sewing room, Jerry's workroom.

@johnbishop We moved in to this house barely 2 years ago, and it is our last place to live. We carefully considered the property before buying. The front walk leads up to the porch, no steps, which is good for me. While I could navigate the three steps down on back porch before, that is not possible at this time, but able to go around from front porch. We are pulling out the fancy soaking tub previous owners put in, and replacing it with a low-sill shower, to have better access. I continue to downsize my considerable fabric/yarn/paper stashes. Now to get my husband to sownsize his tools....
