Living with pain

Posted by bear338 @bear338, Jun 24, 2021

I have lived with some type of pain almost my hole life first as a child then as a adult which I did to my self because of happened to me as a child but maybe that’s why I am still here either I am to stupid to give up or my past has made it possible for me to endure the pain I am in now the problem is that I know that I have a device that could and did stop my pain for 21 years until my doctor turned it off with every telling me what he did or why so I now wait for my new doctor appointment but that is not until the sixth of July all I can say is ask about everything before they do anything to you because the alternative is hoping that the person won’t harm you . Because you are the one who will be living with what ever they did not them, I know that this seams hostile and it is but it is also a warning of things that could happen.

My trial SCS was with Boston Scientific. The trial was aborted as my Pain Mgt. Doctor is an anesthesiologist who irritated a nerve while attempting to thread the probe from the L5-S1 region into thoracic area. After experienced this, along with me being on blood thinners, I decided not to tempt fate any further. My PCP was the one who recommended a trial dosage of Cymbalta (30 mg) for at least a two week period to allow my body to adjust to it. She also suggested using 5% Lidocaine gel as a supplement. I also continued taking 7.5 mg of oxycodone at 6hr. intervals. After a four week trial at 30 mg, the dosage was increased to 60 mg. I'm not experiencing any harsh side effects which I had with Lyrica and gabapentin, and my oxycodone consumption has reduced 25%. My intention is to further decrease my oxy this month to a 5 mg tablet that will sustain relief for 7-8 hrs. That in effect will result in a 50% reduction. I'm just taking it a day at a time.

Beau238, It's great that you have a doctor that will prescribe an opioid. Doctor's in my area no longer do that. What part of your body is causing the pain?

@bear338 dealing with pain is so frustrating and so is feeling like you aren't being heard. Do you feel you are sharing your experiences with your doctors and they aren't taking that into consideration?

Yes I have tried to tell them but they don’t have any interest in fixing it just keep having me come back as often as possible for no reason because of what in the pump won’t do anything for the pain just rack up more bills that all

It's great news that you have tapered your opiate. I wish you continued success.

I’ve only had one dr who listened and she left the field because of what it became. Non-patient focused.

I recently dealt with a "Physician's Assistant" who after NOT listening to my medical history, told me I that all I need is a both a diet and a strong exercise program. ( I can barely walk half a block, nor stand for more than 5 minutes!)
I am beginning to believe that Sciatica is totally invisible to the medical profession, they honestly believe we are imagining the pain.

I have had a daily persistent headache for 2 years. Have been treating at Jefferson Headache Center for 6. I have had spinal blood patches with glue, 6 neck nerve blocks, 78 Botox, infusions, 5 day hospital stay, nose blocks, etc. Nothing works. Can anyone comment?
