I do not have an answer for this, and I am not sure if there is a protocol for this but I waited two days and no one answered this so I am going to tag my fearless leader who has her finger on the pulse of what I swear is an unending number of conversations. @colleenyoung . I wish I could just reach out and give you a hug. I know this is a blow to anyone, I can only imagine how I would react. Is this your first recurrence? What is your doctor recommending?
I asked my oncologist this same question regarding effective dosage. I’ve been taking Anastrozole for almost 2 years. 1mg for everyone does not seem right. I had never had my estrogen level tested, so how do doctors know if Anastrozole is working. I’m 68 snd ‘maybe’ my estrogen was fairly low when I had my surgery. There was not a baseline to compare to now. My oncologist said ‘he takes it for granted’ that it is working. I requested estrogen test and had test June 24th. Waiting on results. I’ll post when I get results. Good luck.

I had a partial mastectomy with 7 lymphs nodes taken out in 2018. Had chemo, immunotherapy and radiation therapy. Finished a year of treatment. 2 months later in March 2019 had colon cancer (a completely different cancer.). Went thru with chemo therapy. All this treatment destroyed my kidneys so now have chronic kidney disease. A month ago got diagnosed with breast cancer that metastasized to the liver with at least 20 leisions. Dr is recommending infusion od kadcyla 1/2 dose in beginning to see how my kidneys and liver react and then increase dose. Just wondering if anyone knows of any other treatment. Thank you for rsponding to my original post.

You certainly deserve your moniker of cancerchamp. Dealing with her2 cancer seems like enough of a mountain to climb without a second cancer and long term side effects. I hope you have family and friends helping you through all of this. Since I am still a newbie here, I am not the best at navigating this myself. Since my heart is breaking for you right now, I am going to attemp to answer your question about other treatments. You already had chemo, and some of these treatments are approved for 2nd or 3rd treatments after taxane, and or hercepton. There is one that is only available under specific guidelines and I am not altogether sure what those are. But Genentech has a website for her2, they make Kadcyla. they also list two more drugs on this website. It looks like you can use this to help guide questions for your doctor. https://www.herconnection.com/
Do you have someone to go with you to appointments? Have you asked your doctor about other options?

I am so appreciative that you responded to my post. Very informative. Now I have more to take to my oncologist.. you mentioned your just starting your journey.. if I can help with anything, let me know.
Right now I don't have family with me but I went thru colon cancer and handled this fine, one day at a time.

I am new here as a volunteer, but I am 17 years into my breast survivorship. I am always curious about the journey of other her2 survivors, I believe there is a type of kinship there. Did you take herceptin? Are you comfortable sharing your age?
I have. I went from ibrance to Afinitor. The drug kept one lesion at bay but another came out. Will keep on it until September and then see. There is a newer drug we may try but cannot recall name. Sorry.

My results came back showing the 1mg dose works great for me. So thankful.
That’s great snd my estrogen bloodwork came back <10, which I was told that is low.

I also gained weight since being on anastrozole. My oncologist said it gives you side effects same as menapause.
