Weather conditions, temps, storms, earthquakes etc

Hello everyone,
I live in in the Central Valley 30 miles from the the geographic center of California.
I went to lunch today with a friend and while eating we heard a very loud noise then felt the floor start to roll and the lights started shaking.
It was an earthquake. Initially the epicenter was 21 miles away however, later that earthquake was removed from the list without explanation. The strongest one was located in Walker about 50 miles soutf of Lake Tahoe. close to the California border then seemed to progress farther west into the Sierra Nevada mountains. Of the 60 (as of last night) most were micos, minors, light, some moderates and 1 strong.
At least no damage to my house this time.
To make matters worse our expected high temp today is expected to be between 107° to 109°. But its going to get worse 113° expected on Saturday 5am its 75°. They want us to “cut back on a/c use.” If I cut back at 113° you might as well bring a knife & fork and a bottle of ketchup & I’ll be the main course.

Hey Jake- It's over us, at least the outer bands are. I'm on the southern coast of RI. But it's not a hurricane at this point, just a tropical storm and not very windy. But tons of rain. Check out the photos of NYC's subways stations on CNN.

Seriously though, my thoughts are with you and everyone out west for the horrid temperatures and the toll it’s taking on people, forests, crops, critters…unimaginable to this mid-westerner. Take care and do, eat that chocolate. It doesn’t like heat! 😉

Here in rural Oregon [not the high desert area], we are heading in to another hot weekend. Two weeks ago, we spent the weekend at 113, and only two days since have been under 100. This area typically gets only 3 or 4 days of the high heat, not like this year! There has been no measurable moisture in a month, so wildlands are terribly dry. Everytime we see clouds coming over, the town is wary of lightning. The saving grace is our nights cool down to about 65.

I wish we could get your rain.
95% of California is in a severe drought. The reservoirs, some empty others like this one at 20-30% of normal.

The earthquake close to me was determined to be a phantom quake. First reports of locations & Richter scale readings are seldom accurate.
This weekend is going to be even hotter, at least here. May hit 115° in Redding!

Hi,

We were watching this…Tampa Bay Area of Florida and, thankfully it shifted more to the East. However, out of caution, so many places were closed and rescheduled, people getting sandbags etc.

So we got some rain…again…and a few windy spots right here, but just a few miles from me, some flooding in lower lying areas. This is the rainy season here and we get more typical late afternoon storms so our ground is saturated at this point. Last week we had several days of long rain events which made you want to scream…enough!

Temps are normal summer temps but people complaining about the oppressive humidity…seems more complaints lately.
Wish we could send some rain and cooler temperatures to everyone affected.
Stay sensible and cool and I pray there are no power outages for you guys. Heat plus humidity makes it so much harder for the condo collapse search effortsdown near Miami.
