Sue, I didn't look at the little identifying tag when I planted it but think you are right that it is a Gaillardia, aka blanketflower. Lavon bought them at a local nursery in Kasson along with three or four other flowers she liked at the same time she bought some tomato plants and broccoli plants for our raised garden.
