COVID vaccines and neuropathy
I am 85 with small fiber neuropathy that is getting worse. My neurologist thought it would be a good idea for me to wait with the covid vaccine and not be first in line to see how it affected other people with neuropathy. Probably because it is a new technology. Has anyone had a problem with neuropathy after receiving the vaccine? If so, which vaccine?

I tried to report mine to VAERS but the website is down.
I am a huge advocate for getting the Covid vaccination. I have three autoimmune diseases and had a liver transplant nine months ago. When my transplant hospital first offered the vaccines for us, I jumped at the opportunity.
I started to develop PN in November last year, likely due to an autoimmune disease. After the first shot, my PN increased significantly. It reduced some, but increased again after the second in early March. And, continues to get worse. Unfortunately, I didn’t have my first visit with the neurologist until after getting both shots. He was not surprised I had such a reaction.
Researchers now tell us liver transplant people we are unlikely to be fully protected, if it all. Thus, for me personally, I would not have chosen to have the second shot, had I known I would have such a reaction, compounded by so little protection. I live in Vermont where we have almost 80% vaccination rate. I’m used to being cautious and will have to continue being masked indoors anyway.
Thank you for sharing with us. I am sorry to hear the PN got worst after second shot. Wish you a full recovery soon. How long has it been since 2nd dose?
Three months. I should add that of course my PN would likely have continued to increase. But, to have it increase rapidly as it did, and as I continue to follow this discussion, I find it disconcerting. I was one of the earlier participants in this discussion. It is, as they say, a Catch-22 when faced with this situation.
Thank you for sharing. I never got the second one. I was just too fearful. It’s been 6 months since mine and the neuropathy has improved. It’s taken this long but it has calmed down a lot. Hopefully in time yours will too.
Tested + for Covid in Dec. Had first vacation mid March, 2nd end of April. I started having peripheral neuropathy in both feet after Moderna vaccines. Pain and numbness in 3rd and 4th toes to start. Burning and swelling sensation (no actual swelling) that is worse at night. Gradually worsening and creeping upward towards my ankles now. Pain in balls of my feet constant now. Never had any of this before the vaccination. Primary care provider prescribed steroid for 7 days. Did help, but all came back as soon as course was finished. Has anyone else had neuropathy in feet after Covid or vacation, and had success in treating? I really hope I can find help.
If you did are still having symptoms after 6 weeks, maybe it is time to see a neurologist about the continuing neuropathy. Let us know what happens.
Did you or your doctor report the reaction to VAERS? (https://vaers.hhs.gov/) That is where these issues are being tracked so they can be addressed by CDC and the manufacturers.

I got PN after =Moderna vaccine - both shots.
My husband has severe neuropathy (not diabetes-related). He got both Moderna shots and had absolutely no reaction in his neuropathy or anything else.
Yes we know different bodies react differently. My experience was a five fold worsening of my neuropathy within hours of getting jab one. There are just no other variables to blame. I’m not trying to convince anyone that the vaccine is to be feared. It’s far too personal of a decision. I’m simply sharing my own experience, which it seems was quite similar to many others out there. I’m glad to hear your husbands was different.
