We each have moss gardens on our property - hers is a meditation path along the river. Mine is intermixed with shade perennials on a Hugelculture garden - literally a garden planted atop a pile of rotting logs.

Where our family goes each autumn to enjoy the changing colors of the aspen, tamarack and birch, amid many dark pines, is a lovely property with many varieties of moss. We would love to bring some back to expand our gardens. And I would like to add one in a corner of the yard for my little grandsons, because they were delighted by the mosses last year.

As to what is happening here, my daughter (who lives with us) is buying an older, neglected home one mile away. The current owner was not willing to do any inspector order repairs, so she agreed to do so - then she fell off the bottom rung of the ladder and suffered a very bad fractured arm. 2 days in hospital, successful surgery, and NO physical activity, but the clock was still ticking. Today Dad takes her for a recheck because something doesn't "feel right" in the cast (I trust her feelings - she is an ER nurse and formerly an ortho surgical nurse...)

Enter, stage right, our 4 angels - my sister, brother-in-law and 2 best friends of over 30 years. Together we scraped and primed all the peeling spots - doors, trim and cedar siding in the peaks. We replaced rotting 2 doorways, reinstalled doors and threshholds, and painted put up all new door trim over just 4 days. Ready for inspection today.

So toady I am going to plant a few plants here (they've been waiting impatiently since last Friday) and treat myself to 2 new hanging baskets. Do a little laundry. And rest.

I love your description of the hummer in action. Maybe you can find a butterfly bush/vine? They have lovely tubular flowers too.

Sue, my goodness! What a month...guess I lost track of the house renovations and didn't know about your daughter. I hope that arm is healing well and she'll be back up and out soon. So sorry about all this.....suppose I've been wrapped up in my little world and nee to refocus. Have to do that regularly!

Enjoy your relaxation with your flowers and those hanging baskets. Mine were destroyed by the precious squirrel's!...Not so precious!

I have a shrimp plant they don't pay attention to much. A butterfly vine is perfect...havea good place for climbing the fence. May get a mando??? Large tubular flowers, red or purple, vine, good baskets or climbing...Love butterfly Bush.

Let you know.
Be good to yourself and blessings to you and family!
