What's outside of your picture window today?

Hi Elizabeth @ess77, If I'm not sure about a bird when trying to identify it, I will search on Google using a phrase like brown birds of Minnesota (or whatever state you live in). You can also download a free app on your phone called Picture Bird - https://picturebirdai.com/. You just take a picture or upload a picture of the bird to identify it.

I was just going to say the same thing, Scott. Sounds like a Cedar Waxwing. Beautiful birds. ☺️

You are wonderful! I installed the app above, but it costs $$ and I don't pay for apps.. I tried to uninstall and spent a couple of frustrating hours...it's still there. I also note I have an Android and downloaded a different one for the android, but it won't install. So, tomorrow, I'll set about solving this stupid issue. I hate cell phones sometimes. Just do what I want, right???? Then, had trouble getting rid of google.play and back to my home page! I have phone set up on google account first then Xfinity and need to call provider tomorrow to get instructions...if they speak English as I don't speak any Asian language....to get it set up on my email account I use!

I think Indiana is right, I was leaning toward a titmouse but not sure. Meantime, I ordered a couple of bird watching books. Peterson, Nat'l Geo, Audobon. I recognized the names of the experts from my previous books and went ahead and ordered from thrift sight. Should have in hand early next week.

Lori, I ck'd online and the waxwing is almost it...even to the reddish area under the tail. But, no red spot on wing, nor white on face. May be young, or whatever...I'll keep ckg.

I have: carolina nuthatch, carolina wren, black-capped chicadee, housefinch!, carolino;a chicadee maybe, downy and/or flicker. etc. I think a finch built a tubular/basket nest in my mailbox, but was scared away before the mailman stopped using and put in the basket below. It's been there, droppings, but no eggs. Guess I need to clear it out now, but gosh! I was so pleased to be chosen!

You know, I just had a remarkable thought about that nest. A few years ago, I also had the same kind of nest with 3 tiny little eggs. They hatched and in the middle of the night, there was a horrid sound of birds fighting, screaming that woke me from sleep....it's at the front door right under my bedroom window.
I went out and was horrified to see a blue-jay had taken all the babies, destroyed much of the nest, feathers everywhere so mom and dad and others were involved. It has taken me years to get over my horror of that experience and the loss of the babies.
Just last week, I had the huge blue-jay feeding on my window! He just got here and the mess in the mailbox is too much for just the little finch mom. They must have been destroyed by that darn jay! Now, brings back bad memories and sadness and I'm mad at the jay....may be innocent, but don't think jays ever are.

Pooh! Do I leave the nest? Nope, think with the mess it needs to go. I may eat the blue-jay, with no clear evidence!

What a delight to see these babies checking us out. This tree is right outside our front window.

I love Owls! Very sweet. Today we are having a North Easter so all of our babies are tucked in.

Dragonflies!! These ugly little 'ducklings' in the first photo turn into beautiful dragonflies within minutes of climbing up onto a blade of grass, twig or anything else handy after making their trek out of the lake.
A newly ‘hatched’ dragonfly crawled up my thumb to dry out. I was very careful not to touch its wings at this point so it didn't get damaged. Once it was dry i placed it on a twig to finish. The last photo shows two empty casings from before the transformation into a relentless feeding machine. Dragonflies can eat 100s of mosquitos per day!!

@IndianaScott how wonderful! I started appreciating owls more 3 years ago at our new home. We had them near our bedroom and could hear them vividly at night. Are they noisy for you? It’s a sound well welcomed for us.
