Hello @marmar56, and welcome to Connect.
Would you mind sharing a bit more information about the pain you are experiencing so the members may better be able to relate? What kind of pain are you experiencing? Where is the pain located? How intense is the pain? Does it last after the massage is over or just while the massage is taking place? Do you have any other issues with your legs?
The pain is the front of the leg, not horrible but I do wince a bit. It is just during the massage. I do have arthritis in the knees and some swelling after sitting for long periods
soreness and tenderness in lower legs front to back. Pain ends when massage is over
I get an intense burning pain like a hot poker when my outer thighs and upper arms are massaged, any ideas on why?
Good morning @corkhill1. May I add my welcome to Connect and an opportunity to understand your symptoms and share what in my journey might be helpful. Have you been diagnosed with SFN, small fiber neuropathy? How long since your last massage? Was this physical treatment given by a PT, an OT or perhaps an MFR therapist?
I have two sessions of MFR treatment every week. Sometimes, there is discomfort as fascia restrictions are released, As soon as the restriction is resolved.....the pain releases and I relax. Sometimes the restriction is more difficult and so I head home with some special instruction....sometimes with props or gentle yoga,
Over the last few years I have been able to eliminate standard pain medication by introducing medical cannabis. I use tinctures and topicals of different doses and combinations. I would be happy to share those experiences with you if you have access to medical cannabis, Yoga, every day, is my standard morning activity. My yoga teacher designed the poses for me in response to my neuropathy concerns,
The other helpful activity for me is mindful meditation with guided meditation on Thursdays. I feel my best at the end of these sessions,
May you be safe and protected from inner and outer harm,
Chris
Hi Chris, thanks for your reply. I haven’t been diagnosed with SFN, I haven’t discussed this with my GP. I rarely have massages because they are so painful and when I do they are usually with a Massage Therapist. Leanne
Thanks for your response. Do you want to have more massages with less pain? I have a bestie who has fibromyalgia. She cannot handle massages on her legs because they truly cannot be touched. After receiving permission from her, my MFR therapist was able to touch her legs and create a positive environment for a regular massage.
