Amino Acids
Has anyone been taking an 8 essential amino acid supplement? I was taking Advanced Botanicals, Perfect Amino. There are very hard pills. Didn't seem to do much. I was wondering if these were being absorbed. Just bought a capsule form from Double Wood. These give me more energy but makes my foot numbness much worse. Any ideas.

Are you taking the Perfect Amino supplement for neuropathy? The ingredient list I see on the product on Amazon looks like it appears to be for body building/workout related - L-Isoleucine, L-Leucine, L-Lysine HCl, L-Methionine, L-Phenylalanine. I'm not familiar with the product but maybe others are. I take a lot of supplements for my PN, most of which I see in the list here from The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy - https://29fvx519grkh3bdqrc16zioc-wpengine.netdna-ssl.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Supplements-Not-highlighted.pdf
I would’t take them myself. Many people overdo vitamins and minerals and cause more harm than good. If I were you I'd check with my doctor to see if thay are necessary.
If you’re eating a healthy diet you shouldn’t need amino acid supplements and could be potentially dangerous.
It’s my understanding that researchers found supplements unnecessary for most people. If you take them at least some of them are better absorbed when taken with acidic foods and on an empty stomach. I’d take them with orange juice like I do my iron.
I take 3 supplements B complex & Vit D because I take Enzyme-Inducing Antiepileptic Drugs and I take increased Vitamin D, Folate & B12. Patients on seizure medication often need more folic acid and B-12 which may increases the risk of stroke in Epilepsy patients. I take Iron because of frequent blood products I donate.
Also I’d use a powder mixed in orange juice. I know for me when taking iron with water didn’t help raise my hemoglobin much but when I used orange juice with iron rich foods it skyrocketed.
As long as your getting plenty of protein I wouldn’t worry about Amino Acids.
Best of luck,
Jake
Hi John Thanks for responding. Not currently taking the Perfect Amino. The pill is very hard & I wonder about absorption. So I bought some capsules from Double Wood. On Amazon. Thought maybe they would absorb better The dosage is lower. Calls for 3 capsules. I took two. I was surprised by the increase in energy. However, later on, my feet and ankles felt number. Thought maybe it was a coincidence. So I didn't ake any more for a couple of days. Numbness got better. So yesterday I tried some more. Again more energy. Reviews on Amazon report people feeling more energy after taking them. For a second time, the same increased numbness in feet and ankles. I have very low energy lately and was looking for help. Maybe there is something in this formula that causes the problem Thnak, Ted.
Hi Jake. Thanks for responding. I read that being low on protein can cause a lack of energy. Recommended was taking the 8 essential amino acids. I also take a liquid B Complex high in B12. Also, take some vitamin D, but not every day. I had extensive blood work done. Found I was low on zinc. Not always a valid test, because Zinc can be present in your muscles. It's 100 percent in my multiple and I eat sunflower seeds every day which are high in zinc. I took an extra supplement for a couple of weeks. Didn't notice much difference. After taking zinc a supplement for a while, I feel a little off and a little shakey. Thanks, Ted
