Burning Feet syndrome

Posted by ndovu @ndovu, Mar 17, 2012

Hi everyone! Am 40yrs man in Africa - Country. Kenya. In 1993 aged 22 and in college, I developed burning feet. So hot have been my feet that I've not worn closed shoes all those yrs
All tests done over the yrs -,including blood sugar, pressure, vitamin test, nerve endings test etc. All have been negative. I'm generally healthy, with no major problem. I need anyone who has had such a problem and got help to help.

One question I have still........my feet are like frozen cold sometimes. I know ice can feel like you are hot, but is this "burning feet"? ice cold?

@maryflorida I know that feeling. Sometimes I have a hard time deciding whether my feet are burning or freezing. Neither one is very nice.

Changes in my body began in 2016 but were misdiagnosed until February of 2019. Mine was a slow steady progression until fall of 2018, then it really kicked in.

Maybe you should view Mayo's video about sensory sensitive... I don't remember the exact name, but am sure a mentor can tell you more.. It was an eye opener for me.. You do have some awful issues and my heart goes out to you.. Hope you find more relief from all the pain and discomfort you endure..

I suffer from almost every symptom mentioned in this thread. All my attacks come in waves but for the most part, the discomfort gets worse late afternoon into the evening. Stiffness is now prevalent in my calves. I can still ride a bike for 20 miles but it’s difficult to walk 20 feet. Icing my feet sometimes helps, THC/CBD creams help a bit - Gummy’s keep me smiling. Not sure what else may ever be out there.
Thanks for all your support.

When you mentioned Gummies, are you referring to Medicinal Marijuana?

Do you know which type of neuropathy you have? I have axonal sensiomotor PN and have the same symptoms as you is why I'm asking. The lower leg muscle stiffness (especially calves) burning feet and inability to walk short distances.

It’s SFN. I was on chemo for several months & my neuropathy became intolerable until my labs improved & I was taken off the chemo but, my neuropathy did not improve that much.

Yes - medical marijuana

I too have burning feet and pins and needles (SFN, non-diabetic, originally triggered by B12 deficiency) only at night or sometimes starting in late evening. I soak my feet in ice water for 20 minutes before bed time and that gets me 2-3 hours of good sleep before my feet warm up again and the problem starts. Then I put on cold socks which is good for about an hour and a half to 2 hours before the gel pads in the socks warm up. I repeat the socks one more time. By this time, it is around 4 am and then the burning and pins and needles starts to moderate a bit so I sleep unaided. And once I am up and about in the morning, it goes away. I also get the burning feet/pins and needles when I exercise (stress on the feet + feet getting hot in the shoes). I use frozen gel pads to cool off my feet after workouts. In my case the feet are actually warm to touch so it is not just a case of nerves misfiring.
Recently, my doc suggested that I try Gabapentin. I started with 100mg and that moderated the condition some, but only for 3 days. Now I am up to 300 mg each night, but that too was good for 2-3 days. Placebo effect? I am thinking about upping it to 500mg.
I would appreciate the group’s wisdom on this.

Hi , i am a 45yrs old, In 1993 while in college my feet started feeling hot. (I would latter learn that it's called burning feet syndrome ). So hot were my feet that i have not worn closed shoes since. Visits to various docs did not yield anything. A neurologist did some tests including nerve endings, vitamin tests, blood sugar but they were negative.
It's only last yr that i was diagnosed with high blood pressure.
My feet are always so hot especially if i do manual work or walk some distance, that i have to step on cold floor or put them in cold water.
Has anyone had such a problem and is there anything that can be done?
I need to one day be able to wear closed shoes as i have not worn one for nearly a quarter of a century.

@ndovu I feel your pain, literally. Have the hot, burning pain. In the house, walking on cool floors without
shoes, nights are bad trying to find cool spots, hate going out because have to wear shoes. The only things that helps especially when pain wakes me up in middle of night is a strong CBD ointment for athletes (no THC) i got from my chiropractor, can only get from a Dr. Its from CBD Clinic Pro Sport Level 5.

I have had PN off and on through the years. But this year I have a new problem. When I go outside when the sun is out (including cloudy days) for more than 10 minutes I get an intense burning pain on the top of my feet. After I go inside the pain lasts for 2 hours then subsides. The feet do not turn red. I tried going out with pants long sleeve shirt and wide brimmed hat. Got burning feet. Went out with leather work shoes and ankle high rubbers on. Got burning feet.
If I go and work outside after the sun sets I don't have burning feet. Walking on treadmill inside until I am soaked in sweat does not cause burning feet.
Obviously something to do with UV rays because when I am in a car or behind a window I don't have problems.
