@merpreb I cannot see throwing wilted lettuce, past-their-peak fruit, carrot tops into the trash. We have a multi-acre property behind us, and deer use the vacant property next door as a pass-through. Besides that, elk, skunk, fox appreciate some scraps, all thrown over to open land. The "big kitties" [cougars], eagles, hawks and kestrels are waiting for the goslings to appear soon.

Ginger: Oregon law makes it illegal to feed bears, cougars, coyotes, and wolves, and for good reason. They can be dangerous. Another thing is that human food is not wild animal food. Make a compost. You really aren't doing the animals any good. Many of our food is sprayed with pesticided so that won't be good for them.

You should cook and eat your carrot tops. They are nutrient rich and good too.
