Without knowing the exact model of Phonak you are wearing it sounds like the ear mould may be at fault. I am assuming you had custom ear moulds made. If so, are they vented? I could never hear properly with a vented ear mould.
My moulds are soft silicone and have to fit snugly so there is no leakage of sound. Acrylic ear moulds are more prone to acoustic leakage. Silicone ear moulds work best for high gain aids like the Phonaks. When I had the moulds made my Audi instructed the maker to extend the end as far into the ear canal as possible.
Proper fitting ear moulds are crucial for optimum hearing and so often the first go around in fitting is not a good fit. Something to think about and maybe run by your Audi.

Hello, Mary. I have an appt in a couple of weeks with the hearing aid person at Mayo. I need help in both ears, apparently not really bad, but worsening the last several months quite a bit. And, enough I'm having trouble, conversations are the pits and forget it re background noise.
I've been reading and learning from you experts on the hearting site and feel far less ignorant, probably just enough to be dangerous.....but, I don know I don' t know anything....so, the mold info is good. tks. I'll keep reading and learning.
I hope to go through the process with the Mayo folks because I'm familiar and comfortable there and I do trust them a lot. We'll see. This is a huge, huge step, as you certainly know. But, it's gotten to the point I want to hear and understand, so it's time to swallow my pride and all the other negative emotions and save pennies and go ahead.
