Let’s Go Walking! Join me for a virtual walking support group
Many of you living with cancer or an autoimmune disease, like me, deal with daily fatigue. You know that exercise is so important to your health, but it’s so hard. There’s always an excuse: it’s too cold or hot, it’s going to rain or it’s raining, or it’s snowy and icy, or I just don’t want to. I, too, have all these excuses, but I have a new rescue dog who wants to go out and who doesn’t care about my excuses! And I’ve got traction devices for my boots.Now I just need a walking group who will keep me accountable. People who say, ‘let’s go for a walk.'
And I thought: What about my virtual friends on MayoClinicConnect?
Mayo Clinic has an easy 12-week walking program to get us started! Here’s the link:
- Get walking with this 12-week walking schedule https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/get-walking-with-this-12-week-walking-schedule/
So let’s form a virtual walking group. We can agree to walk every day and encourage each other through Connect. We can walk outdoors, in a mall, or in the red center, or in the hallways of our apartment building.
Who’s in? Who’s going to join me?
Come on, Let’s Go Walking!

@loribmt Thanks for your most welcome post, Lori. After I posted all those details last night, I was so regretful for doing so. Too much information! Not fair to all you wonderfully supportive folks. I'm truly not looking for sympathy, because I know this is just one more battle many of us have to face. Needing to vent sometimes is a whole other matter. Lol. Forgive me. Every new day brings hope. Laurie
@artist01 No need for apologies. We’re all family on Connect and here for each other. I know you’re not looking for sympathy. But empathy is important for all of us. We need to know we’re not alone in facing life’s challenges.
Just for future reference, if you post something you’re not comfortable with, you do have a 30 minute slot where you can edit or delete your message. The 3 little dots on the bottom right side of the posting gives you the option of editing. If you change your mind beyond that 30 minute window, then just ‘report comment’ and one of the monitors will delete your comment. ☺️
@artist01
Are you and Lizzy ess77 competing for the Guinness book of world records for the most illnesses? I must be running last compared to so many here. My Epilepsy is my only serious concern and it's so much better but will be glad when my roommate shows up just in case I go into Status. Without someone to call 911 my goose is cooked.
Speaking of a goose I want to go see if her babies hatched. I'd like to take my lunch but don't want to fix it. I'd like a pastrami sandwich, malt and a pile of onion rings or maybe chips and a malt and a banana split and a candy bar or two to crumble on top but none of the good stuff is allowed. I need a new less strict and mean doctor. I would tell her so too if she wouldn't be so happy to get rid of me. Guess I'll have to stay and make her as miserable as she makes me.
Take care kid & remember “it is what it is,
Jake
@loribmt Thanks for your continued support and understanding, Lori. I didn't realize I could have a post deleted with Report Comment, so that's good to know if I should come to my senses within the 30 minute time limit. Lol. Maybe it should be extended to 60 or 120 minutes for slackers like me! I've often used the very handy Edit feature. Hope you have a better than average day. And thanks again.
@jakedduck1 Yep, Jake, it is what it is. That fantasy lunch you are wishing for sounds like Diabetic's Heaven.
I do wish you would invest in a medic alarm to hang around your neck or wear on your wrist. It saved me the other night when I was blacking out, and the ambulance arrived and got me safely to the hospital. It would ease your mind, and mine too. Don't be so stubborn! (See, I can be bossy too.) Lol.
Did the goslings arrive yet?
@artist01
Those medical alarm devices would only help me if I were standing provided it could detect falls, I wouldn't have time to push the button. I'm with it one second out cold the next. I'm doing good not having seizures anymore but you never know.
Take care,
Jake
Didn't Shasta erupt recently, in last several years, at least last 20 years? I remember something about it unhappy...you have a great spot, not far from interesting places. And, it seems, Leonard, you take advantage or that! Good for you...blessings, elizabeth
I understand why some members aren’t walking, but where did everyone else go! I had a great walk this morning—chilly but not cold. And the fields near us are green and the trees didn’t lose too many branches. Maybe spring is starting!
@gingerw
I love that mountain. I have a large picture of it in my bedroom that belonged to my Grandmother. My favorite view of the mountain is the Avalanche Gulch side or the Shasta side. You said it Ginger, majestic.
Take care,
Jake
@artist01, and everyone....Tell me about your medic alarm system you use. I've been on the verge for a couple years, but need more info I can get from some online research, again, but haven't done. So, please tell me your recommendations. I have balance and fall issues, weakness, and other stuff. And, I'm alone most of the day, so am quite concerned of needing help and not able to get it....What do you have? Do you wear something around your neck or clipped on your clothing? Does it go straight to 911? What if you can't talk?
See why I need your input? Thanks for whatever you can share. Blessings and may this night be peaceful and healing. elizabeth
