Hi @farahali and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I see you are inquiring about developing type 2 diabetes after having gestational diabetes during pregnancy. According to the CDC, About 50% of women with gestational diabetes go on to develop type 2 diabetes, but there are steps you can take to prevent it. here is the link that you can use to look further into it. https://www.cdc.gov/diabetes/basics/gestational.html#:~:text=About%2050%25%20of%20women%20with,sure%20you're%20on%20track.
It goes on to say that reaching your target weight after pregnancy will help reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes afterwards. Have you gain weight during this third pregnancy? What did your physician suggest while you see your pregnancy to term?
Thank you for your reply, im not and i was not obese anytime in life.my BMI is 20-21
I’m old now, I had gestational diabetes. My baby girl was 9.5 lbs at birth. I developed Graves Disease following my pregnancy. Now I’m 55, overweight due to hypothyroidism, and I’m not diabetic, but I eat sugar free to try to keep the weight down.
One doesn't need to be overweight to become diabetic. I wasn't overweight, but was diagnosed with gestational diabetes each time I was pregnant. No one told me it was likely I would eventually get "the real thing." But then in my fifties I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, and I learned that diabetes ran rampant in my mother's ancestors.
