About a year after my hip replacement, I started having groin pain again. It took 10 months and 7 doctors to discover that the replacement had come loose. After a revision replacement, I feel great again.

HI Barb-

Im trying to avoid going thru more doctors, which I have done with no success.
Can you tell me how the one doctor found your solution? Who did the procedure and was it done at Mayo Clinic? What was the procedure that the doctor completed that solved your pain problem? What was your age during the surgery?

Thanks.

Where was your revision and which surgeon performed the surgery? How long was your recovery before you could go back to work?
Thanks!

I had a bone scan, which 2 drs. looked at and said nothing was wrong. I went to a pain dr., he looked at the same bone scan and saw it immediately. He referred me to University of Iowa, Dr. Callahan. I had what is called a revision, where they removed the bad part of the old replacement and put in new parts. I was 60 at the time. I have had no problems since then with either hip.

I work at an elementary school and had it done a week before school got out in the spring. I was fine to go back in the fall.

Thanks for the information. I have to have a revision and I work in an elemtary school too. They told me 3 months and I was just wondering what your experience was. How was the revision recovery different from the original hip replacement recovery? Thanks!

Considering the pain I was in before, it was a breeze! It hurt less the evening of the surgery and the next day than it did the day before. I was walking the halls with just the walker and no assistance in 2 days - and showering and toileting alone, too!

Hello Ann....Go to Arpwave.....very interesting info here on hip & knee replacements....I was going to have a hip replaced, but went thru this place to avoid doing so. It has worked out great. Takes a lot of work ... but worth it. I don't like doctors or surgery.

Oh my I'm on dr 5 after injections and mri CT they tell me they don't find anything also my white blood count is double that tells me infection but they say no I'm in pain 24/7

I have total hip replacement surgery March 1, 2023. I did ok at first, did 13 sessions of pt, then things got worse. I still walk with a cane and my hip hurts so bad. I also have unexplained pain in my right leg? Seeing my 2d doctor next week. What exactly is involved in a revision replacement? I'm so frustrated and depressed. It hurts so bad to lean over or twist around. I still can't sleep on the surgical side. I want to be able to do things again. I just sit and lay around most of the time. The pain management doctors are so hard to deal with. I left my dr. a message I needed a refill. She did not fill it, no message, nothing. I have to go through the weekend without pain meds. Life is just impossible to get through right now. The pain management centers in my area are pitiful. Anyway, sorry to go on and on. Just wondering if a revision is discussed with my second hip dr., what does it involve? Thanks so much.
