Has anyone tried Coolief for pain?
I understand that the procedure involves freezing the nerves. Supposedly the treatments last for 9 months to 2 years. I am concerned of side effects and permanent damage to the nerves. It is covered under Medicare but one must have a referral by a doctor to the specialist that is trained in the procedure.I have had steroid injections but that is not helping and I am not a good candidate for surgery since I had open heart surgery a year ago and have other health issues.

Hi @hazelnut I think you are referring to radiofrequency neurotomy? If so here is some information that may answer some of your questions. I am not familiar with the procedure but a 3 of my patients have had this procedure and no reported issues to date.

I think it was approved by FDA in 2017. It's a new procedure and very few doctors have been trained to perform the treatment. It is done in the office . I did ask my orthopedic doctor to refer me for the procedure but she preferred I see the surgeon instead so there must be some issues with the procedure. But, if one is in pain and high risk for surgery what other options are available ? A close friend of mine was on medication for her pain and due to the meds she got Chron's and is in worse shape now than ever. I know many will say try pot or cbd oil and I am really considering that!

1 ReactionThank you for your post. I have only had steroid injections. The arthritis is in the hip but the pain is in my knees. I have met with a surgeon but he thinks I am high risk for hip surgery because of my afib and recently told that tests show I have Lupus. I won't know for sure till the 28th of this month about the Lupus.
